Can Subsonic be modified to or does it have the ability to stream music to a player embedded on a website?

Yeah, it looked like you wanted someone to answer, and I was playing around with the share thing and it just seemed like a fun thing to do.

JW player can be embedded in any website. http://www.longtailvideo.com/players

They have instructions there on how to do it. Essentially, Subsonic is a website, so it's hard to get a handle on exactly what you're trying to do. You can use the share feature to link to any SS material on a webpage.
