Choose to exclude folders from random albums view

I use Subsonic for videos and music, but mostly for music. I also use the random album view very frequently. I have 2 folders set up, one for music and one for videos. So when I use the drop down box on the left, I can easily populate the list of artists with either music or videos (or both with All Folders). But no matter what folder is selected, the random albums on the front page always have both music and videos.

Would it be possible to cause the randomization algorithm only choose albums that are in the list in the drop down box on the left?

I would also like to be able to exclude individual albums or artists (perhaps genre, too) from the random playlists or views. I have some "sound effect" albums and others that do not really work well in a random playlist.

That said, I usually just pick a random album and listen to the whole thing. So not a big deal, but something to think about in your coding travels.

Yeah there is no way this is going to happen until one they either program it to do this, or they program options that the user can choose for what appears up front.

I've started to accumulate a bunch of podcasts, and when I'm looking for a random (music) album to play, I don't need to see podcasts in the random list.

Maybe this is asking for something that is technically difficult, or at least very cumbersome, but is it even on the radar?

Being able to tick a box on a folder or even individual album would be great. Maybe putting a "NORANDOM.txt" file in the folder to flag it for the program?

I would like to see this happen also. I've got tons of TV shows mixing in with my random music. When the drop down on the left is set for music, it should only show random music items. When it's set for videos, it should show random video items.

Another small UI issue if this is changed: The random section is labled "random albums". That would need to say something like "random videos" if videos were selected.

Yes.. this is a huge issue for me too. I actually have more videos (TV shows & Movies) than I do songs and I use SS to stream them very nicely. I know this was added fairly recently (at least officially), but it would be great if SubSonic actually seperated Music and Video. Even the stats completely ignore the fact that SS can now be used for video...

This is not even close to accurate. If I had 9TB of just music I wouldn't know what to do with it.

+1 for this. In fact, I joined the forums just to ask for this. I have TV, Movies, and Audiobooks all in Subsonic, and it really bites to have the 5th chapter of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince play at random. I'd love to be able to limit this to just music.

I have some spoken word and video stuff that I have separated out with the Music Folders setting. I'd like to exclude them from newest, random, most frequent, etc

I think the easiest way to implement that would be to have another tick box next to the media folders in settings.
"Exclude from random"
Any media folders thus ticked would be excluded from the random view in home and also from the random playlist.
I must admit it's rather annoying to have an audio book pop up in the middle of your songs

+1 on this. I have a lot of children's music and it's kind of a bummer not being able
to exclude these.
