:( Problem playing songs with low kbps

Postby d3ngar » Wed Aug 24, 2011 10:12 am

Hi,

I have been using Subsonic a while now and I'm very fond of it. I donated and would again, so much do I like the service!

One thing though: A lot of my older MP3s are in a low quality and I have problems playing them via Subsonic. Basically a song that is over 4.56 becomes 1.27, so it stops somewhere quite early in the song. A song that is 1.20 becomes just 1 seconds. Other players play the MP3 without any problems.

I have attaced an MP3 for testing.

Any help or ideas would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Chris

Yep I checked this file out and there does appear to be a problem. :(
This file is a 56kbps but is reported in SS as a 192kbps. Hence it is finishing about 35% through the track.

I converted the file to a 96kbps and this is reported and played correctly in SS so a batch conversion may be the answer until this gets fixed.
At those low bitrates they will convert very quickly :)

Thanks for the answer!

I have tried this myself, using LAME to convert one, but the result was anything but impressive. I used dynamic bit rates and the MP3 still kept playing fine in Totem, Rhythmbox or what have you. Unfortunately, when moving it onto the SS-Sever (the SSS :D) the file became much *longer* than it actually is and was just mute after the first minute.

I have to admit, I didn't know what I was doing with them early MP3s, but I don't have the discs anymore and can't re-encode them from the original.

What did you use to convert, how do you suggest to batch-convert?

Will this be fixed? Is there like a bug-tracker for SS?

Thanks,

Chris

01. Intro.zip

I would suggest mediamonkey or foobar2000 for the conversion.
I have attached the file you uploaded which was converted with mediamonkey.
It took about 5 secs with my lap-top which is steam powered
Check it out and see if it plays ok.
