Support for UNC paths in playlists

Postby kalaxx » Tue May 25, 2010 11:58 pm

I've seen the post related to UNC paths in playlists and the need to edit them and adjust paths to relative paths.

I generally create my m3u playlists in Windows Media Player on my network clients and it would be great to not have to search and replace text to make them usable in Subsonic -- making them unusable on my clients.

I'm a new (registered!) user of Subsonic and am still amazed at its functionality. I hope we continue to see it evolve!

Best,
k

I am having the same issue. M3U is the only playlist I believe which WMP can create and subsonic will play... but WMP saves the M3U with relatives paths, while subsonic requires them to use only absolute paths. Is there any workaround for this besides manually editing the M3U playlist from relative --> absolute paths?

SS does support UNC in playlists but you need to ensure that your media folders in SS are also set-up with UNC paths as well
I just added a wmp generated m3u playlist which played fine in SS once I changed my media folder address to UNC.
Hope that helps

Changing the paths to UNC paths in the Subsonic settings definitely allowed my playlists to play (thanks!), but load times on playlists with UNC vs. drive letter paths take A LOT longer to load, as long as 15 seconds vs. 2-3 seconds...

Wonder if I'm the only one experiencing this?

Are the music folders on the SS m/c or networked?
On my brief test I didn't notice any difference but my playlist was small and all the folders were local.

I have SS and the music folders on the same box, an HP Mediasmart Server (EX-475) running Windows Home Server.
