Resize album pane, longer filename support

Postby dryphi » Fri Sep 09, 2011 7:57 pm

I would be nice to resize the left album pane and view the entire album name. Scrolling to the right is a pain, I'd prefer to make the left pane bigger (and smaller) as I desire.
I follow the "artist - date - album" convention for naming folders, and a majority of my albums have long folder names. I currently cannot read the entire album title, even when I scroll to the right. For many albums I can't even anything past the artist name!

Here's an example of what I currently see:
Armin van Buuren - A State Of...
Armin van Buuren - A State Of...
Armin van Buuren - A State Of...

Creedence Clearwater Revival - 1968...
Creedence Clearwater Revival - 1969...
Creedence Clearwater Revival - 1969...
Creedence Clearwater Revival - 1969...

And so on.

Furthermore, since my collection is in the /album/ directory structure, I must open each album to even see what it is.

The aforementioned, along with the lack of support for the /album/ directory structure, have caused me to fall out of favor with using Subsonic. I didn't use it at all for over a year. I have recently begun using it again and I hope these simple feature requests can be addressed :)

I think you will find most of us are using an artist\album\tracks directory structure.

If you do a forum search you can edit index.jsp to get back re-sizeable frames but the effects can be variable depending on your browser.

You can also alter the caption cut-off in settings/personal.

Nice thanks. I'll give those suggestions a shot.

It seems to me that it would be desirable to design the streamer to be as robust as possible; that is, to handle multiple directory structure elegantly, but I understand you can't possibly do everything :)
I have a large collection. It would be quite an undertaking to sort through and reorganize everything. If there was a program that could "sub-folderize" like that without changing the file names, I would consider changing. Do you know of any such programs?

Edit: Is it also possible to change the size of the font that text is presented in? I could fit more of the album title in a given frame size if I could pick a smaller, yet still readable font size. The Ctrl + and Ctrl - browser function hotkeys work pretty well but the adjustment is incremental and hence not ideal.

I use Mediamonkey but Foobar2000 and no doubt many other programs will reorganise your music BUT they only work if your music is correctly tagged.
If you search the forum you will find discussions (suggestions  ) about using the tag fields rather then folder structure in SS but that does mean everyone will need to tag correctly.

My files are fastidiously tagged, with the folder and file names based on the ID3, which is why I am hesitant to use any program that could mess up the organization or file names.
I have both Foobar and MediaMonkey; thanks for the suggestion I'll look into that.

Edit: MediaMonkey does have some powerful tools in the auto-organize feature.

Can you tell me what to edit in the index.jsp file?
Also, which index.jsp? I currently have three of them on my drive in various locations in the c:\subsonic folder.

Got it, thanks. Shrank the right (chat) column considerably and made the left column resizable.
Also made the top column 72 to get rid of the little arrow buttons that show up there unnecessarily on some browsers.

Is there a way to edit text size?

This is fun :)
