Subsonic excessive memory & CPU usage

Postby strungoutfan78 » Fri Feb 25, 2011 8:05 am

I have found that any time I commit changes to my media library in the Subsonic browser client (i.e. sort by artist) running in a google-chrome tab memory usage increases permanently by ~ 3% until my system is unusable, and one of my four CPU cores gets maxed to 100% until the change is done being committed. I am running Subsonic 4.4 (build 2169), jetty-6.1.x, java 1.6.0_24, Fedora 14 64bit on Intel 3400 Chipset, HP dv6 laptop. I have confirmed this by monitoring with htop and google-chrome's task manager that it is, in fact, Subsonic that is using these resources. After killing the Subsonic process I get all my resources back.

Now, is this a Subsonic issue or is this a chrome issue?:?: :?: :?: I have not found this same bug by doing some brief googling and searching of these forums, but pardon me if this is already a known issue.

How large is your library?

Sorry it took so long to respond, had a lot of programming homework. My library is slightly larger than 2000 mp3's, not large by any means. To be more specific, Subsonic acts the way I have described when altering my "All Songs" playlist. It's as if there are objects being created in memory when writing the list but they never get deleted.

**EDIT**
Isn't Subsonic written in Java though? Shouldn't the garbage collector be taking care of this?

I'm experience this exact issue as well running debian squeeze 64bit and subsonic 4.5 (build 2384) I was curious if you ever found out the cause? (using opera as the browser if it makes any difference)

No, I actually have given up on Subsonic altogether. It's a shame because I just purchased the iPhone app for my wife to use at work too. All of a sudden it just stopped working remotely on my Android phone. If using it locally on my LAN at home it was fine, but something was getting screwed up in the UPnP settings and even though I tried to manually open and forward the ports it just wouldn't work anymore. This was on a Fedora system. I've since switched to Debian Squeeze 64 as well but haven't given it a shot again. I think it may be my router, Buffalo WHR-g300n. I've been having problems with my wireless multi-function dropping connection, as well as my laptop dropping while downloading torrents. I think I may just have to hard reset my router and start fresh, but until then Mediatomb works way better for what I need. The config files are a bit overwhelming but the result is a much more fluid media streaming service.

Thats disappointing to hear :( Assuming it had been more than 30 days i'm pretty sure subsonic requires a donation to keep the api functions active that allow the remote iphone/android apps to function (i found this out the same way when it just stopped working all the sudden on my iphone) so hopefully that helps you out a little!
