newbie hardware question for video streaming

Postby baggacfreak » Mon Sep 19, 2011 11:33 am

Hi,

I am going to buy a new system which should handle following things:

- stream mp3s to my N900 Nokia smartphone with 64k or even less (64k internet flat)
- stream audio within my local lan to a pc or notebook with 128k mp3
- stream video to my girlfriends house via 786k Upstream?!?
- stream video to my N900 Nokia via wlan profil n900 (bitrate might need adjusting

N900 Profil: mp4 - videocodec h.264 - Auflösung 800x480 - Bitrate 1728 - fps Original - aspect - audiocodec AAC - Stereo - Frequenz 44.1 Bitrate - 128.

As hardware equipment I thought following would do:

Intel i5 750 with 8GB Ram and 1 system harddisc with 3 harddiscs in a raid 5 system for video a passiv 512MB Nvidea card.

Is the above mentioned task possible with such a system or would you suggest anything different especially for power usage?

Yours Baggacfreak!

Im using a I3 550@3.20GHz
4 Gigs of Ram
12 Terabytes of storage
Windows home server 2011 64 Bit
My ISP Limits upload to 1.2 MB/s
I have had 3 people logged in at same time with no problems.
Your hardware should be more then enough, its your ISP upload limit which will possibly give you an issue.
I watch Blue Ray files from my server on my lan with no probles either.

Hi,

that upload rat might be not the best, but would it be enough because of the smaller resolution of the Nokia N900 screen? I mean it is not as high res as a blueray or 1024p file.

Yours, baggacfreak.

P.S.: As OS would it be better to choose Win7 64 Bit or Linux?
