SubsonicTV now available in the Roku Channel Store

Postby joelbrave » Tue Sep 20, 2011 6:43 am

We are very happy to announce that SubsonicTV was just released today in the Roku Channel Store. It is available in two flavors:

SubsonicTV Lite and, SubsonicTV PRO.

Both versions allow you to play music and Roku compatible videos from your Subsonic Server. Subsonic PRO has robust browsing, searching and discovery features, allows you to create playlists directly on your Roku, and implements many features of the Subsonic API, such as random song, random album, recent albums etc.

All Alphas and Beta's of SubsonicTV have now been updated to SubsonicTV LITE. A new Subsonic Server "Auto Find" feature has been added to both SubsonicTV LITE and PRO that can usually detect your Subsonic Server on your LAN, provided the Roku and server on on the same subnet.

We hope you enjoy SubsonicTV! For more information, please visit SubsonicTV.com

Not at present. Roku can only play MKV files if you have a Roku with a USB port and have your files on a drive attached to that port.

Can't subsonic transcode the files to a filetype acceptable by Roku?

At the moment, subsonic cannot in real-time transcode video files to a format that will play on Roku, you need to run them through Handbrake or something similar.

Roku won't play live streams except via HLS and a real-time-transcoded file needs to be delivered via HLS to play on Roku. This ability will most likely be coming to Subsonic in the near future.

OK. Thank you for the response. As soon as support for other video files is supported I will be all in.
