If so it is one of Subsonics little mysteries

Yes, they are in the left pane under B, listed as "The Beatles."

This is just one of several similar mysteries in the search results.

Re-reading this thread I realised that I havent got an album called "The Beatles"
Try renaming that particular album and updating the search index.
I wonder if the lucerne search index is getting confused between albums and artists although I have a number of similar albums where the artist and album name is the same and I haven't noticed a problem :?

I just noticed something. I don't actually have any album called "The Beatles" (or folder at the album level called "The Beatles"). It seems to be confusing my top level artist folder with an album folder, and grouping it with the other Beatles albums. I can't see why that should be happening.

Yep looks like its definitely broke

I have found before that the easiest way to solve this type of problem is to rename the artist folder to something else eg The Beetroots :)
Update the search index then rename the fab four back to their proper name and update search again.

Let us know if that works.

One problem solved!

It turned out I had one mp3 file in the /The Beatles/ artist folder, so it was interpreting that as an album. Now everything under /The Beatles/ is another folder (i.e. album) and the search results work as expected!

There are still some other mysteries, e.g., why there is only one Phish album when I search on Phish, but then when I click on the "Phish" artist, there are many albums. When I search on an album name in that group (e.g. "Nectar" for "Picture of Nectar") I get no relevant results, so for some reason those albums are just not getting into the index.

I'll "second" this problem.

I'm running Subsonic on windows and just upgraded to Subsonic version 4.5 thinking that this would solve this same problem that I had with an earlier version.

I've got say 124 tracks by the artist "Toto" in my collection All of the tracks are properly indexed and visible in a log file called subsonic14.index. This index is created each morning at 9:00 AM as I set it to. Unfortunately, when I search for all Toto tracks in the search "bar" at the top of Subsonic, returns the first fifteen tracks then a "more>>" link that shows ten more tracks for a total of twenty five. Why don't all 124 tracks appear? Anyone?

If I click on the subsonic navigation bar on the left, I can browse for them in that pane, but I'd like to be able to search by typing in the text.

Thoughts? Solutions?

There appears to be a maximum list limit of 25 items in the search index.
I cannot get more than 25 of anything to show in search.

That could be one problem, but I don't think it's at the crux of what's happening here. If I search for a Phish album (e.g. "Junta") I get no results at all (so it can't be the 25 items issue). But if I go to the artist "Phish", there is the album, Junta, in Subsonic. And in the file system it is /Phish/Junta/files.

Is Junta tagged correctly? I'm going to look at the Search Index Code, but I think that the Search uses tag info.

Yes, as best I can tell it is tagged correctly. I have 27 albums under "Phish," a mixture of ogg, mp3, and m4a files, and only one of the 27 shows up in search results. The metadata for all 27 albums (296 files) shows the same artist/album artist for every single one of them.

I will add to this that if I search by album titles related to the artist, Toto, say, for the album Mindfields or Tambu, none of the tracks for these albums appear in the search results even though I can clearly see them in the subsonic14.index file. I can browse for them and play them, but they don't show in the search results.

I deleted the subsonic14.index file and then ran the re-indexing and the file was properly re-created, but I definitely think that somethng is broken with the search function. I hope this can get fixed.

One bug that that is definitely reproducible is the way it handles an album with more then 1 disk.
E.G. If I search for Dynamic Stillness (by Steve Roach) I get the result back as "2009 - Dynamic Stillness" as the ARTIST
I then get 2 albums listed as "Dynamic Stillness" (one for each cd)
The directory structure is artist\year - album\Disk #\tracks for multiple disk albums.
So it appears to assume that one directory back from the tracks is the album and the next directory is the artist. (Which works for single cd albums)

It also shows that the artist name is being inferred from the folder structure but the album name is is coming from the ID tag (otherwise it would be called Disk 1 or 2)
This could cause problems for anyone who uses a directory structure with say tracks and artwork sub-directories within their album directory :(

I took a look at subsonic14.index myself. There are entries for all of the albums in there. I can't see anything that distinguishes those albums that are actually returned in search results vs. those that are not.

The subsonic14.index appears to hold every Artist Album & track but there is also a lucene index with separate indexes for Artist Album and song.
Its in there where I think the problems may lay
