Any chance of getting the android app approved in the amazon appstore so it can be used on future amazon tablets?

Sindre will need to do the deed. I have a Kindle Fire on pre-order (like I NEED another tablet! :P ) and despite plans to hack and mod it, I would like to see the Android App in the store as well. 8)

I got my Kindle Fire and I realize that Amazon is not giving the full breadth of the Android marketplace, but there is no application there, whereas it was found and works fine from my Android Revolution.

So I guess my question is, do we know how soon it will be available specifically in the market for the Kindle Fire or is there a way that I can browse to my server without it converting "localhost" to my external IP address. I don't want to futz with my DNS settings unless I have to, but the symptom I'm getting (only n the Kindle Fire) is a page not found error, and the automatic conversion of the URL in the Kindle Fire browser to the IP address instead of the localhost URL.

I love the Kindle Fire, but miss having Subsonic on it. I installed Subsonic on my Kindle Fire, this is how.

1. Allow third party apps on the Kindle Fire, under settings.
2. Copy the subsonic.apk file to a folder on your kindle.
3. From your Kindle Fire, navigate to the folder and install.
4. Turn off Third Party apps setting.

This is how I got the subsonic.apk app.
1. On my droid phone, installed Astro File manager, obtained from Droid Market
2. Used Astro File Manager to backup the subsonic app.
3. Connect droid phone to computer, grab the apk file from the backup folder.
4. Connect Kindle fire, copy apk over to the Documents folder and install

Same...no sign of it in the Amazon Store.

I'm going to try bcrivers suggestion tonight, sounds like the ticket.

What'd be even cooler is if Sindre would make the install downloadable from the website, then we could just grab it with the Fire via the web, allow 3rd party apps, and do the install instead of jumping through hoops with the backup, etc.

Sindre? Any updates from Amazon on this? It'd be great to see it up there!

I submitted a new version to Amazon today, let's see how that goes.

Anyway, you can download the latest APK from here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/subsoni ... k/download

Why is subsonic streamer $2.99 on Amazon App Store but free on Google Market?

Do we get anything extra for this $2.99 ? Is it the same .apk? I have no problem supporting development here, but most of us who are capable enough of setting up our own servers are capable enough of downloading the free android .apk and installing it on our Kindle fires.

It's the same APK, and you're more than welcome to sideload it for free.

I put a price on it to see if it helped getting Amazon to put it on the App store, and it did.

Thanks,

So the answer is only if you are an Amazon shareholder :D

Due to the confusion from too many genres of music, we have decided to put both country music and rap music into the genre of Crap music.

Hopefully you get a cut off Amazon, though I bet it's hardly anything if so! That would be a raw deal if not. I figured out the sideloading from the start, but it just amazes me how a lot of things on my android phone are free, however amazon and apple charge for the same apps. You would think a developer would have the right to select their price in any market. I guess that's maybe where they coined the phrase "shipping and handling"!!

Bottom line is that it is on Amazon and available to those who don't care.

I paid for it to merely support the effort.

Paying Amazon doesn't support the effort as much as sending a direct donation with the donate button... If you don't know how to side load, then all is forgiven. It's pretty easy though. One easy way to side load an Amazon device is to email the APK to your email, open your email on the device, and then open the APK on the device. Installation simpleness goodness.
