Just registered subsonic, can't get server working

Postby Jmills87 » Fri Sep 30, 2011 7:56 pm

Hello, I have just donated and registered my subsonic license. I am trying to set up my server at .subsonic.org but no matter what name I put in there it says

Code: Select all
Status: jmills87.subsonic.org is registered, but could not connect to it. (ConnectTimeoutException)

And when I try to connect to the server on my iPhone the loading wheel spins forever and eventually says

Code: Select all
Unable to connect to Subsonic server

Any ideas? Thanks!

So your next reading task is http://www.subsonic.org/pages/installation.jsp
Can you access on local host?
Have you changed the default port?

Yes, it says:

Code: Select all
Status: jmills87.subsonic.org is registered, but could not connect to it. (ConnectTimeoutException)

It gives the same error no matter what name I put in

That is because the port is blocked.
On that same page as before, have you ticked the automatically configure your router blah! blah! box?
If you have then UPnP is not working correctly on your router and you will need to forward the port (4040) manually.
Portforward.com will give you further info if required.

Thanks a lot, forwarding port 4040 manually worked! Does this mean that I will have to change the IP address in the port forwarding anytime my dymanic IP changes?

Thanks again!

Your server should be on a static IP within your lan. With regard to your external IP just use your name.subsonic.org address.
That will take care of that for you automatically.
