No players found.

Postby robhagemans » Mon Oct 17, 2011 9:46 pm

When I create a user with the username 'rob', I get 'no players found'. Other usernames work fine. I have deleted and re-installed subsonic and deleted the /var/subsonic tree and still this problem shows up. How can I solve this?
[subsonic on ubuntu 11.10]

Apart from changing your name I would suggest going into settings/players (as rob)
The default player for that user should be listed, if it isn't just create a new one.

Thanks & sorry I wasn't clear - the 'no players found' appears in the settings/players page itself.
You suggest 'if the default player isn't listed, just create a new one' - how do I do this? I haven't found the option so far.

Deleting the user and re-creating it does not generate a default player. And I'm (rather irrationally) attached to my name, so didn't want to come up with another user name...

Anyway, there seem to be two separate issues conspiring here:
- there seems to be no option to create a default player if none are available (at least, I can't find it...)
- deleted users don't get completely removed from the database, and their settings come back if you re-create a user.

Perhaps a 'reset user to defaults' option would be useful? Purging the whole installation for this is such a waste...

When you go into the settings/players menu you should have a drop down box labelled select player.
Underneath you should have 2 options: delete player and clone player.
One thing to bear in mind is that certain themes appear to mask the text in the boxes so if it appears to be blank change the theme or select the hidden text with the mouse.
Hi tech theme appears not to have the above problem so try that one.

Hi BKKKPewsey, thanks again for your help.

I see the drop down box and the delete/clone options you refer to for all users, except the problematic one. As you say, the options may be masked by the theme. I'm using the default theme, don't know what the name of it is.

For those interested, steps to reproduce:
- create a new user
- delete all players for that user in settings/player
- save settings
- go back to settings/players

Anyway, I managed to 'solve' it by finding all settings/database folders and deleting everything, then reinstalling. It would be a bit of an expensive solution once I've spent more time on the setup, but as I was just starting with it it's ok for me.

Haven't tried the above steps since - it works now, trying to keep it that way :) When I find some time to mess around I'll try and see if I can find the hidden text or if changing themes solves it. Maybe I'll then also file a bug report on the default theme...
