List of songs does not appear in left menu bar

Postby oremguy » Mon Oct 31, 2011 3:40 am

With Win7, when I log into Subsonic, i am told how many artists are in my music file, along with the number of albums and songs, but I do not get a list. The same is true of pictures. Also, when I attempt to load a playlist I am told that the playlist directory does not exist, which it does. When using the android app and after selecting the server and either the music or the pictures folder, I get no list in either. Needless to say, as of now I am somewhat disappointed with Subsonic. Hopefully you can change this.

Artists are shown in the left frame NOT songs/tracks

Have you set the playlist directory in settings/general?

Thanks for responding. I do not get anything in the left frame, other than a statement of the number of artists, albums and song. Yes I set the directory correctly in settings/general.

What is your music directory structure like and what folder(s) have you set in settings/media folders?
If you have a directory setup such as "D:\music\artist\albums\tracks" you would add D:\music as your media folder.

Under my media folder, which I have entered correctly in media folders, I have sub folders for jazz, classical, etc. I do not have all of the artists in a sub folder under music. Is that my problem? Also, why don't I get a list of my pictures?

As I understand your structure it is:
media\genre\artist\album

The folder-structure in Subsonic has to be:

Artist\ Album

If you want to keep seperated genre-folders, you have to enter each of these genre-folders in media-folders, not your media-folder
This works but it has side-effects, if you navigate "Up" and you have the same artist in different genre folders.

Covers are shown, if they are situated in the album folder als folder.jpg or embedded in the cover-tag of the songs of the album.

Problem solved. For me, anyway, the music folder had to be the first folder on the drive (for me drive D:, thus D:\Music). After making that change, it doesn't seem to make any difference if the folder structure is music\genre\artist\album. The left frame simply lists the genres rather than the artists. Android app now streams my music from my PC. I'm a happy dude.
