Problem with remote access

Postby mpatrickjr » Fri Nov 11, 2011 5:12 pm

I'm a newbie and not all that technical so my question is, why is it so complicated Mod see http://forum.subsonic.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=7566&start=15
(re all above posts) to set up Subsonic on WHS 2011? All I did was install Subsonic directly on the computer along with WHS 2011,
point at the server disk volume holding my music, set a static ip for the WHS 2011 computer in the router, and
voila, I can stream music across my LAN.

I do have problems since I can't stream over the internet. I get "..web site not found.." messages when I
try to connect from outside my LAN even though my router is set to forward ports 8000 (the one I chose
for subsonic since WHS 2011 uses port 80 for web access), 443, and 4125 all to my WHS 2011 computer. My
remote web access for WHS 2011 doesn't work either. I haven't modified the Windows firewall, but I have the
same problem even with Windows firewall disabled.

WHS 2011 computer: static ip 192.168.0.150
router setup: forward 80, 8000, 443, 4125 all to 192.168.0.150, static ip for WHS 2011 = 192.168.0.150
web logons failed: myname.subsonic.org, xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8000 (xxx is ISP assigned ip for my router)
LAN logons work: 192.168.0.150:8000, http://localhost/8000 (on server)

Welcome
Hope you didn't mind me moving your post to here 8)
With regard to your external lan problem the fact that both IIS and subsonic can not access outside your lan points to a router issue.
Use http://canyouseeme.org to check that the ports are indeed open.
If it reports (as I expect) that they are not try using http://portforward.com which will guide you through for your particular router.

Due to the confusion from too many genres of music, we have decided to put both country music and rap music into the genre of Crap music.
