Problem on Local LAN (WiFi) on HTC Hero

Postby choobakka » Tue Nov 15, 2011 8:13 pm

Hi guys,

I managed to get the server up and running yesterday (on OSX), including the port forwarding, and then left it on so I could test it at work today. No problems. Everything worked fine. I could access it via the http://xxx.subsonic.org (on windows 7) as well as via the app on my HTC Hero.

Now when I come home and try to access it via the app (phone and server are on the same LAN), I keep getting the network error.

I typed in the http://xxx.subsonic.org in the phone browser and it redirects to the INTERNAL IP address (192.168.x.xx:4040). I tried using another phone's browser (not connected to LAN) and that redirects to EXTERNAL IP address and gives me access to the server.

Does anybody know why the HTC Hero is redirecting to the INTERNAL IP address and if so, what am I doing wrong?

I'm so close to getting this amazing service/app working. Just this one problem with devices on the same LAN...

Simple answer is nothing :)
Any browser on the same lan will show your local IP address.
Why it will not connect is a different matter :?
I would suspect it might be a WiFi setting on the phone that is at issue.

PS I have edited the subject to attract anybody with the same or similar phone as yours who can help.

Expected behaviour. Your router will route local traffic within LAN, rather than try to send it over WAN. You need to set up a local 'Server' entry in the app for 'Home' (IP addy of your server, it IS static, right? and port), and then one for 'Away' (xxx.org addy) when you have a WAN connection.

Hi alphawave7,

I tried setting up a 'Home' server entry but it doesn't work!

Even when I type the LAN IP/URL (192.168.x.xx:xxxx) into the phone's browser, I get a connection/network error.

I'm assuming my IP is static. When I check my IP via the router, as well as via the computer, I always get the same IP.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong...!

Hi guys,

Just wanted to let you know that I managed to solve the 'problem'.

There was nothing wrong with the phone or the network, just with the router. I had 'enable SSID' set to 'on' in the router control panel and somehow how that was interfering with the signal between the phone and the wi-fi.

On a side note, the wi-fi was dropping (stopping) regularly (few times a day) but hasn't dropped once since I turned the SSID setting off.

Weird but its all working fine now. Love the app, and even streamed a whole movie over the wifi on to my Galaxy Nexus :D
