Jukebox control from smartphones

Postby benito » Sun Nov 20, 2011 12:53 am

I'm new to SubSonic, so please let me know if I'm missing something already available.

There are thousands of desktop and smartphone media players out there, but very few that can be used as a whole-house jukebox, that's why SubSonic caught my interest. It's Client-Server design shows a lot of promise.
I used to use the venerable RoomJuice server, but that is no longer maintained.

My setup:
Headless Linux Server connected to Amplifier with speakers around the house.
Laptops with web browser control SubSonic with Jukebox player selected (This works well for large screens)

What I cannot get to work is for smartphones (Amdroid) to interact with the Jukbox SubSonic server. Sure you can open a web browser on the phone, but with a small screen the interface is not practical.

The SubSonic for Android app is great for streaming to the phones earphones, but cannot interact with the jukebox server playlist, nor listen to what is playing on the main speakers.

I would like to see a selector for the player, just like in the web interface, and maybe also to select whats currently playing on the jukebox as the music to stream to the phones headphones as well.

Are there any options, plugins, tricky hacks?

Thanks.

I have just found the WAP version of the web interface found at:
http://yourserverip:4040/wap/

It's very basic, but more suited to a small screen.

There is a limitaion to the use however, and that is that only the "admin" login can play music on the Jukebox player.
It is not a permissions limit, but a symptom of how players are organised. I'll post a seperate thread on the strange way the players list works.

Summary:
If all users login as ADMIN, then web/wap interface can be used for (very basic) jukebox playing.

Everyone is entitled to be stupid, Image but some abuse the privilege!

Due to the confusion from too many genres of music, we have decided to put both country music and rap music into the genre of Crap music.

Wiickid!

Just what I was looking for, Android control of the Jukebox!
no more struggling with the /WAP interface.

I still cant work out how to setup the Players, seems even when logged in as the same user I cant see the queue on the Android from the web interface.
It's called user@android-jukebox, and I cant select it from the web interface.
Seems Android and web interface cannot co-operate, only butt-in on the play control.

FWIW, I tried running an Android emulator to operate the jukebox through the Windows environment. Works, although the volume adjustment is rather coarse. Followed these instructions. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/21831/ho ... g-a-phone/
