Not every computer can login to subsonc?

Postby dutchronnie » Thu Dec 08, 2011 8:08 am

Hello,

I have been trying subsonic for 2 weeks now, and it cost a lot of time to get it al function well.

I am working with a Vortexbox on wich Subsonic is installed.
I have portforwarded port 4040 and 80 in my Cisco EPC3925 router to ip adres 192.111.222.33. there is subsonic installed.

On my home PC i can access subsonic with 192.111.222.33:4040 (local adres)

From outside i can access subsonic from some computers with adres 33.77.88.99:4040 (Adres from service provider)

But on my work i cannot access subsonic.
I can open adress 33.77.88.99 , it opens my vortexbox web gui.
But when i enter 33.77.88.99:4040 i get an network error message (The request timed out before the page could be retrieved).

What can i do so i can enter subsonic from my work.
That is the place where i want to use subsonic
Who do know what i can do about this.

Unless your ISP has given you a static IP you need to use a dynamic DNS service.
You can usually set that up in the router (normally with dyndns.com) or use your name.subsonic.org address.
Check with http://canyouseeme.org that the port has been correctly opened in the router.

I don't have a static IP, but my IP has not changed the last weeks.

At home i have checked port 4040 with canyouseeme.org, and it was open.
At my PC at work i have checked port 4040, and there it was closed.

Must both ports on both sides be open?
Or only on the side of the server on wich subsonic is installed.

I don't have the possibility to change ports on my work PC.

You do not need to, only the server port has to be opened in your router.
Is your work lan blocking access to your IP?

It sounds like your work has a firewall which is only allowing web traffic on well known web ports (ie, 80 and 443).

Given that you probably need the Vortex Box Web GUI you mention for SOMETHING and can't shut it off, I can only see one option... Change the port of the Vortex Box Web GUI to a non-standard port and change subsonic to run on port 80 (since your ISP is obviously not blocking it... you can hit the existing GUI at port 80 now) and then lose access to the Vortex Box GUI from work.

That is, if you can change the port of the existing GUI...

Or buy your IT guys lunch and get them to allow web traffic on port 4040.
