Slow Upload Stream

Postby exelan » Mon Dec 12, 2011 4:03 am

Hey guys!

First off I'd like to apologize in advance if this has already been covered, I couldn't find the topic in any of the other threads but that could just be me.

Okay so I just basically want to know if there are any settings or tweaking that I need to do in order to increase my overall upload stream from my server?

I have a 20Mbit upload for my internet and currently it's only pushing about 500Kb/s when I stream a video. Is there something going on with the transcoding?

Much thanks!

Anyone? I'm really having issues with this and can't figure out how to increase the upstream bandwidth from my server at home to my devices...

What kind of connection is on the client side? I'm betting that the limitation you are seeing is due to the DOWNLOAD speed of the client not the UPLOAD speed of the server.

Unless you are also seeing very high CPU usage on the server when streaming at high bit rates, in which case it is the transcoding that is causing the issue. But I doubt it...

Hey bushman4!

Thanks much for the reply, I figure that the client download speed is pretty high because its at my work and they have a corporate OC3 to the building. Also most everything else downloaded to the workstations here average at about 1-2mB/sec.

I'm kinda confused about the whole thing because from what I was reading, accessessing the server interface in a browser via SSL bogs down streaming compared to accessing the interface via HTTP. Is that true?

These are my current internet bandwidth statistics while trying to watch a video at work.

RX 34503.09 kbit/s
(4211.80 KB/s)
TX 700.82 kbit/s
(85.55 KB/s)

I also have heard from a couple different friends that I've provided logins to that it's the same choppy <buffering> results for them too.

Thanks for the reply and help!!

:D
