Help with Shortcut

Postby bluetooth » Fri Dec 16, 2011 10:50 pm

I'm trying to understand how to use the shortcut function. I haven't been able to find anything. Is there any thread or reference I can look at? Or any guidance greatly appreciated.

If you put your mouse over the information icon in settings/general - shortcuts a pop up will give you most of the info you need.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I'll try not to be too stupid, but this is not working for me.

In the shortcut panel I have entered "Albums to Checkout" including the quotes.

I wasn't sure what was meant by top level folder, I have a number of media folders:
d:\music\artists\
d:\music\sound tracks\
d:\music\jazz
etc.

I created a folder d:\music\Albums to Checkout\

I recreated the index, but nothing has changed. I do not see a shortcut section in the left panel. Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Make sure you add the new folder to SS (settings/media folders)
The term top level folder is a bit confusing as it doesn't need to be, e.g. if you have a folder "ABBA" in your d:\music\artists folder that will work too.
(Well it does on mine :) and no I haven't got a shortcut to them, it was an example)

EDIT: I just did a test realising after posting that none of my shortcuts are "top level folders"
It would appear that the description is rather "misleading" in that the shortcuts need to one level down.
eg: create a folder C:\music\Checkout and add to SS as a media folder.
Now create a folder Checkout\"Folders to Checkout"
Now create a shortcut in SS "Folders to Checkout"
Alternatively if you add your "c:\music" folder as a SS media folder that should achieve the same.
I just tested it so it should work :|

Your post explains "top most folder". Thanks! It worked.

I like the idea of shortcuts. Has anyone figured out how to use windows shortcuts instead of copying the music?
For example, I'd like to have a shortcut "Best Albums of 2011". It's a waste to duplicate all the albums, can I use a shortcut to point to the albums I want? I have tried and no happiness.

Thanks again!
