Lost IP?

Postby heavyonwire » Wed Dec 28, 2011 8:48 am

Hi,
I'm using subsonic on a Windows 7 Media Server behind a Fritz.Box, have donated, got my key already and would like to downstream my music on an iPad. The App I'm using is iSub lite. Additionally I've activated UPnP and using a xxx.subsonic.org address which as far as I understood avoids the conflicts with changing outside IP addresses.

Normally everything works very fine and I have access to all my music files. But overnight it seems to be that I lost the IP. I've always to call the Subsonic web interface, log me in as admin and to save again the tab network and everything works until the next night comes.

I assume the problem is the dyndns but I was thinking that would be solved by the fixed xxx.subsonic.org address.

Can anyone help me here? Used the search engine already but didn't find a hint...

On that page you are showing hit the save button - this will update your subsonic.org address.

Jepp, and after doing so everything works fine again. But do I have to do so every day?

No SS auto updates the subsonic.org address daily (at least) - its just that your external ip had changed between updates.

Maybe it's my English but I do not clearly understand what you mean.

Dyndns comes from Subsonic? Correct? Update of external IP is on an hourly basis? Correct?

Therefore my non-static IP problem should be solved? So why do I loos the contact over night?

dyndns is nothing to do with the subsonic.org address.
Subsonic uses its own re-direct server which is why you do not need to specify the port no in the url.
One of the "modders" (or Sindre :) ) who know the "code" better then me could answer how often it updates.

Correct..you do NOT need a dyndns address..the subsonic redirect server does this for you automagically. IIRC, the local Subsonic server pings the redirect server and will update it with any change in IP, once every morning (I believe near the default 3am database rescan). A dyndns address is optional, and I have one in the VERY RARE case when the redirect server gets hosed. :)
