Can't Access Music Files [Resolved]

Postby vbrown119 » Wed Jan 04, 2012 10:00 pm

Hello:

I apologize in advance for my lack of computer savvy. I am hoping my relative ineptitude will mean that the problems I am experiencing with Subsonic will be easy to resolve for anyone with a modicum of knowledge about the subject.

I have had the full version of subsonic up and running for about a week. I've been accessing it on the web from the server, other computers and my IPhone. It's been working somewhat sporadically. Typically it works great, but every once in a while it will tell me no media files are available. Usually if I wait for a bit, they come back online. This morning however I got the "No Media Files Found. Please change the settings" message and it seems to be a permanent situation. I tried following directions, i.e., when I went to the media file settings I found no folders listed, so I added the folders again, but it still tells me that the there is no media found.

I am still able to access and play the media files through the subsonic website using the computer on which the media files reside.

Again I apologize for not knowing more about that of which I speak. Any help that can be provided is much appreciated!

Thanks!

:? So if you go to your server -open up a web browser and log on to subsonic you can see the files?

Thanks for your response!

Yes indeed. I can see the files on a web browser on the computer I am using for a server.

Thanks for the redirection to the how to ask a question post. Below are my answers (to the best of my abiities)!

Subsonic Version: 4.6 (build 2583) – December 6, 2011
Server Version: jetty-6.1.x, java 1.6.0_29, Windows XP (24.8 MB / 50.4 MB)
Hardware Platform: Windows XP
Java Memory Limit: 100
Problem Filename: No Particular File
Output from ffmpeg: Sorry, i don't know what filemane to use?

Ok now we have more info to go on. :)
Next question
So when you access subsonic (SS) from another pc on your network you can access SS and log in no problem
but it then says no media files? (Lets keep the iPhone out of the equation for the moment)

In addition to PKKKBewsey's response, log in as an admin, and go to http://[subsonic]/db.view.

Type "select * from music_folder" into the box and press ok.

What is the output?

Also, from the output of your log, it looks like you restarted the server. How often do you shut the server down?

Yes, I can log in from another PC, but there are no music files.

Here's the output fro the database query:

ID PATH NAME ENABLED CHANGED
4 E:\Monica Monica true 2012-01-04 11:55:02.5
5 E:\Music Music true 2012-01-04 11:55:02.5
6 E:\Classical Classical true 2012-01-04 11:55:02.5

oops! Just saw your question regarding the server. I haven't intentionally, nor been aware of the server being shut down in days.

What is "E:/"? Is it a mounted external drive, a network share or an internal drive?

It's an external drive.

I think you may need to have a look at the system logs for server to determine how often it is shutting down
and what might be causing it.
As it is an XP machine check for errors in the IPv6 drivers which are a known problem.

Even if the server is restarting though, I can't figure out why you can access them from the server but not remotely. (On the subsonic web interface)

Thanks. I'm afraid though that I don't know how to check for errors in the Ivp6 drivers. I researched it a bit on the internet, but got more confused!

Ok. I uninstalled SS from the laptop and tried to log -on using my server name and was unsuccessful. I got this error message: "Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to 192.168.1.103:8080"

So i checked my friends browser while she was connected to SS and lo and behold the address was different than the one above, it was (http://192.168.1.117:8080/index.view) I logged in with that address on my laptop and was able to log on and access my media files. Not sure why http://(my name).subsonic.org doesn't work. I've double checked the network settings to make sure I'm entering the server name correctly and I am, but when I log on using that info it takes me to a page with no media files.

Perhaps I have inadvertently set up two different subsonic accounts? My friend used the "named" format to log onto SS last night and then bookmarked it. Tonight she was able to log on using the bookmark. So last night the "named" account was working, but tonight apparently it's not. I would guess that if I logged out on my server and tried to log back in using the named account it wouldn't work either. I'd wind up in the account with no media files. The server has remained connected because it hasn't been turned off, while both my laptop and phone were turned off for the night, hence the problems this morning.

I tried the same thing on my IPhone, i.e., entering the working address rather than the server name to no avail.

So I guess I have come up with a work around of sorts (at least for my laptop), but I still feel rather uneasy as I'm afraid this isn't a very stable solution - if one can even call it a solution. And of course I still have to figure out what's going on with the IPhone.

A new development. A friend is here with her mac laptop and she was able to access SS using my log-in info and play music - so the problem seems to be my laptop and IPhone . Because it happened to both at the same time I assumed the problem was connected - perhaps i have separate issues.

I think what I'll try is re-installing the ap on the IPhone. I also downloaded SS onto the laptop. Perhaps I should uninstall SS on the laptop and just try accessing it via the laptops browser w/o the SS program on the laptop?

yup. that's where I'm stumped. does your drive stop spinning or does your server sleep? I could see how if you are using a remote client, maybe the server is already sleeping or the drive is sleeping and when you are using the server browser the computer is obviously not sleeping

I did. It also seems that the path has to be right since it's working on the server when I'm using the browser. Though perhaps I'm missing something. Though as I mentioned before, the first time I checked the settings when I got the error message, there was nothing there and i had to reenter the folder info. Whereas on the server browser I haven't had to make any changes. I'm logged in as admin in both browsers. Wouldn't changing the fie path on one browser change it everywhere?

and you double checked the path to the folders in the settings?
