I personally am using an Intel Pentium dual core E2220 with 4GB RAM.
It is running Ubuntu server 10.04 LTS.

It was running windows as a regular store bought computer and then it crashed. Windows refused to cooperate when reinstalling, so I decided to turn it into an Ubuntu server. That is how I found Subsonic. I was looking for something for the server to do!

2 gigabit connections TEAMED for more bandwidth
Raid 1 for OS
Raid 5 for Subsonic
Standalone Subsonic
Averaging 126 processes


I have NO issues transcoding and I have been running subsonic for several years. I transcode all non-native video formats and haven't seen any performance hits. The most I have seen on the server is 4 streaming and 2 downloading and still, no stuttering.

Transcodes video files without stuttering (one user) but barely on .avi and .mpg. .mkv runs fine with around 50% cpu time usage

Im using an i7 2600 (3.3Ghz) 8 cores
8 gb of ram
on win 7 pro..

video transcoding takes up 15%

definitely overpowered for now but i have one query.. is there a way we can limit the bitrate for video?

Hey, am currently shopping around for parts for an unRAID server, and I was wondering how well you think that particular processor handles transcoding. Does it stutter at all? Is this for 720p or standard definition? 67% is a fair amount of CPU usage, I'm guessing you'd only be able to have one person watching videos at a time?
