Share Single Files Albums

Firstly just like to say hi and thanks loving subsonic !!

Is there a way to share a download not just share a stream link without opening up the entire server

I have noticed that shared download links work only if the user has "complete download access", not good in my humble opinion

If i remove user download access then obviously links do not appear

Is there a workaround for this or do i need to use a seperate server/ftp etc

Share links and download have separate check boxes in the create user pages.
So a user can be given share capability but cannot download files.

the problem is not with the shared media access

My understanding is that the shared media is purely a stream not a download

I am trying to give user access to a single file/album download without opening up the entire server

ie if a guest user logs on with guest guest they can see the entire server and download accordingly dependant on priveleges

I only want to give access to certain downloads not streams

If you only leave the download permission checked, the guest can only download but cannot stream. How about giving us a scenario so that we can better understand your question?

Ok Im sorry if i didnt explain too well I appreciate all your help !

i want a user to be able to browse my entire collection : this can be done by giving no permissions all good so far

i then want to be able to provide a download link to a single track or album, "not a stream link" : cant see anyway of doing this; streams work in shared media but there is no way to download that i can see

if I grant a user download rights it appears that they have access to entire server : not good

I simply want to provide a link to a single track or single album that other users can download while restricting download access to the files i choose; not the entire server
or setup a specific share if that is possible

So basically what you want is the share functionality with only download abilities. Whatever you share will only be downloadable, not streamable.

Here is where I see the problem: The entire share engine works on the premise that guests cannot download; they can only stream.
Guests are not supposed to download.

Its more users than guests

a selected group of 5 band members to be precise

so give them a link to a bunch of songs to download so as they can be learned for next gig

I dont want the headache of my isp not happy with the server being abused.

Finally, i thought there maybe some kind of flashvar link for adding a download link in the shared media stream in JWPlayer because that seems to fit what i'm trying to do perfectly.
I just want the users to be able to download for the purpose of playing in their car etc when a website is not available.

I see from browsing that netjukebox and kplaylist have a download function that would work i just much prefer the way subsonic does things plus i dont really fancy running two servers

I have to tell you though, I don't think I'm gonna be able to mod this anytime soon. It requires java backend tweaking, which I don't do at the moment.

I'm sure collectively, with all the talented subsonic users, it could be done.
but i fully understand the time constraints
In the interim i'll go down the two servers route until the time is right
