Subsonic Cache Files?

Postby text » Wed Feb 08, 2012 3:44 am

Where are the subsonic cache files stored and how can I control where they are stored? I don't want them on my local drive. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

What cache files? The web interface uses strictly the Internet Temporarily Files, if anything. But nothing is cached in the web interface (in the sense of storing it persistent from session to session) except maybe your name and password if you told it to save them, which would either be in your browser's password store, or in a cookie.

So every song I play through the browser is stored in the temporary internet files? Does that leave some potentially recoverable evidence to my music library?

How can I change that?

Thank you,

Just set your browser options to automatically delete history and temp cache files after each session.

That still leaves a lot to be desired. Ideally, I would rather have the temp files stored in a custom location. This way I wouldn't have to worry about anything being recovered. Besides, "delete" doesn't actually "delete" per-se.

Of course, I could use other tools to "erase" the temp files. But again, that still leaves a lot to be desired.

Thanks

Well, we haven't even really established that the music files are cached. But if, in fact, that is the case, I would think that In Private or Incognito mode for your browsing session would solve the problem. Easier yet, just listen on your phone and take it home with you when you leave. Great earbuds are pretty readily available.

No. Cache files are easily recovered. Incognito mode doesn't incognito everything and when you're done with it, it does a simple delete from the file table. The file still exists. This is why I "erase" everything. Obvious vulnerability.

I opened the Internet options window and selected Browsing History settings then "View Files" and can find no evidence of Cached music files.

The above article explains where the files are found. In Win 7 / IE9 the Tempory Internet files are stored in the Users app directory, which I would think is only accessible by the User and the system administrator. In any event if you have admin rights it's a simple thing to edit the permissions on the folder to deny anyone else access.

Please share with us how to find these cached files as others may be interested in securing this security weakness you have identified.
