Subsonic + Unraid + FFmpeg

Postby kat-ho » Tue Feb 21, 2012 1:13 pm

Hello world,

I first would like to thanks "subsonic group" for this wonderful application...and all the folks that will be able help me.
Since It is my first post I will try to do my best to stick to the rules for posting.

As a matter of fact, I came across this issue and I try very hard to find out "why". Iv have read everything I could over and over to find a solution but
now it is time to trow the sponge(bob). I declare forfeit :-)
So to keep it simple, I have build an unraid nas (witch is one of the best investment I have evermade...so go and cheer up for Tom, limeteam, and the people on the wiki ).
I have install many features, and of course subsonic ( instruction here http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=4700.0 /can be found also on this forum)
I have made the latest updates for the stand alone.Music work very well!!!!
Now every time I try to stream an MKV file, I get stuck, it play and pause the movie and that is my bigfest pain.
This happen trough my home network, no matter the kbps-rate is set...
So I now it s time to help me...any one with the guru skills in unraid + subsonic helllllllppppppp :-P
As I am sure you go across this I will be glad if you can do something (maybe I can send you back Swiss chocolate  )
( Is it possible to post also the latest transcoder PRECOMPILED FOR UNRAID somewhere on this forum as I am linux noob and I don't know how to do it)
Please see below the help form (as you can see in the ffmpeg output I have an operation denial, maybe we can start with that)
Many thanks in advance and I hope it will help other in the futur

What exactly is the problem you are having with mkv files?
Are they not displaying or are you getting a lot of buffering?
The first thing I would say is that it is very unlikely that you will get a smooth video transcode with your hardware.
An atom processor with only 1 meg ram is very underpowered for such tasks.

Have a read of viewtopic.php?f=5&t=8680

Hi BKKKPewsey,

I have read the article you posted and It could be an hardware issue.
The thing is that I can stream movie in my home network on 3 different computer at the same time.
So perhaps transcoding should be possible. The mobo is
zotac d525 intel 1.8 dualcore nm10

Before I get into hardware part I would like to check if the transcoder is right
the recommended setting are

ffmpeg -ss %o -i %s -async 1 -b %bk -s %wx%h -ar 44100 -ac 2 -v 0 -f flv -vcodec libx264 -preset superfast -threads 0 -

They do not work for me unless I delete the end

ffmpeg -ss %o -i %s -async 1 -b %bk -s %wx%h -ar 44100 -ac 2 -v 0 -f flv -

Trough my reading, if I am not mistaken, the "end" should enalbe multicore cpu operation and consequently give better result for MKV handling.

I know my ffmpeg is outdate, but I don't know how to update it on unraid
So fellow unraider and subsonicker, any one can help to solve this issue?
Many thanks in advance
