Is it possible to add network shares of windows clients in the freenas version of subsonic like, \\computername\share ?

freenas 8

Postby widemind » Sun May 22, 2011 4:32 pm

EDIT: OK, I was'nt patient enough. The Freenas 8.1 roadmap gave me the anwsers ( http://freenas.org/about/news/item/freenas-81-roadmap ). See you at next update for more informations !

Hi all,

Freenas 8 is available since recently.
I've installed it and it's working well.
However, no way to install java & subsonic on it.
Did someone tried it? With success ?
If yes, a secondary HowTo in this section would be welcome, in order to use new BSD system performance with hard drive acces.

thx

ive tried it and its slick looking however i couldnt find a way to make it install the full version on a memory stick which is the way i'd prefer running freenas. There is probably a way i just didnt put enough effort into looking into how. from what i was reading it is because of the unreliability of the flash memory after 5000 or so read/writes. im not too concerned with that though. im running 7.2 which is running freebsd7.3p6.

anyone able to fix the problem where video wont play using SS 4.6 and Freenas 7.2? Mine says its unable to estimated duration of the video file in the log. Tried everyhting I can think of. CHMOD 777 the video files, tried a bunch of suggested trancode strings. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

This guide worked for me: http://www.parmeter.net/ben/2011/02/02/ ... tructions/

Just ignore the part about installing the JRE and execute "pkg_add -v -r openjdk6" instead.

Now it is easier than before, as matter of fact, it is just a clic away. There's a subsonic plugin now available for Freenas 8.3.0. I'm running it now and it works like a charm.

Im going to leave the links for you guys.

http://forums.freenas.org/showthread.ph ... nic-Plugin all the credit is for Joshua Parker who managed to compile it?

http://forums.freenas.org/showthread.ph ... le-Plugins

BTW, you should post on subsonic website into apps or somewhere else that Subsonic is also supported by FreeNAS.

sindre_mehus thanks for this great app, I love it.

Cheers,

sindre_mehus wrote:This tutorial explains how to install Subsonic on the popular FreeNAS server.

The following was done with Subsonic 3.6 and FreeNAS 0.69. Note that a "full", not "embedded" FreeNAS installation is required. Make sure to allocate enough disk space on the OS partition. Java and Subsonic requires at least 150MB.

In terms of hardware requirements, you probably need at least 750MHz CPU and 180MB RAM.

Step 1: Download Java JRE (or JDK) package from http://www.freebsdfoundation.org/downloads/java.shtml

Step 2: Install dependent packages first:
Code: Select all
$ pkg_add -v -r xtrans
$ pkg_add -v -r xproto
$ pkg_add -v -r xextproto
$ pkg_add -v -r javavmwrapper

Step 3: Install the JRE (the .tbz file is the one you downloaded in step 1)
Code: Select all
$ pkg_add -v diablo-jre-freebsd6.i386.1.6.0.07.02.tbz

Step 4: Download Subsonic standalone version and install it in /var/subsonic/standalone, as described here.

Step 5: In the FreeNAS web interface, go to System > Advanced > Command script and add the following "PostInit" script:
Code: Select all
/var/subsonic/standalone/subsonic.sh

Step 6: Reboot FreeNAS, and go to http://<your-freenas-server>:8080 to start using Subsonic.

Your comments are welcome!

Awesome! Been a while since I looked into it, but is there an upgrade path from .7.* to 8.* yet? I have no easy way of moving my data in order to rebuild my ZFS pools.

Hi everybody,
Thank you so much for this app, seems to be so handy.
By the way, i tried to install it on my FreeNas, and turned it on but after that I don't know how to access to the configuration page.
Is it the adress of the Jail that I have to write, I really don't know and it would be so nice if you could help me.
Thank you and sorry for my English

After a long time researching this I have documented the steps required to do this on NAS4Free (embedded 64-bit version).
