Access to Media on Shared Drive

Postby widder18 » Sun Mar 11, 2012 8:31 am

I have Subsonic 4.6 installed on a NAS (Netgear ReadyNAS) and it works great with all media that is on that NAS. However, some of my media is installed on a separate NAS (WDSharespace) and I would like to make available those files in Subsonic as well.

The machine name of my second NAS is \\wdsharespace and the media files are located at \\wdsharespace\media. I can access this folder from the Windows explorer (I'm using Windows 7 Professional). However, when I try to add that folder to my media folders (under Settings - Media Folders), Subsonic does not appear to do anything. Although the log entry indicates that a folder was created (log: NFO MusicFolderDao - Created music folder \\wdsharespace\media\), the folder does not appear in the folder list, and Subsonic does not add any files from that folder.

Any ideas what's going wrong? I assume that Subsonic has issues accessing the second NAS, but I don't know why and what to do about it...

Thanks a lot everyone.

You need to give the ReadyNas access to the Sharespace NAS. So you need to set up the permissions correctly.
You also need to make sure that you are using UNC paths within SS. (which appears that you are :) )
The fact you can access the 2nd NAS from your windows pc is irrelevant as SS is not installed there.

Due to the confusion from too many genres of music, we have decided to put both country music and rap music into the genre of Crap music.

Thanks. Unfortunately, I'm not quite sure how to set up permissions for Subsonic. Do I just set up a user in Subsonic with the same username and password that I'm using on the second NAS, or is there any other way to do that?

Thanks again.
