Can't Start Subsonic

Postby tmwsiy » Mon Apr 02, 2012 5:34 pm

Been using for a year with no problems...

Now I can't even start the tray icon.

Tried restoring Windows to a few days ago when it was working properly.
Reinstalled Java
Rebooted
Uninstalled and reinstalled Subsonic
Change Routers

Nothing works.

When I go into Subsonic service and try to start from the control panel, I get error 1067: Process terminated unexpectedly

Windows 7

Any ideas?

Telling us what OS you are using helps but we do do more info.
What version of Java have you running at the moment?

Thanks for the response...my post did indicate I was using Windows 7.

Not sure the Java version, but I reinstalled this morning so whatever is the current version from Java.com.

Make sure you do a complete uninstall of both Sunsonic and Java. Use Control Panel/Programs and Features to uninstall Subsonic and all Java entries. Delete C:\Subsonic

Start with a fresh Java install to the latest version. If you have Java already, uninstall, then do a clean install of the latest version. If you use a 64 bit browser be sure to get both 32 & 64 bit Java.

6.31 is the current version .

Then install Subsonic directly from the Sourceforg download.

If the Subsonic service won't run after that, you most likely have OS problems and may need to reinstall Windows unless you can identify and correct the problem by looking for clues in event viewer.

I've lost count of how many times I've installed SS on both 32 & 64 bit Windows 7. It runs fine. There are detailed Windows installation instructions available in the Tutorial section.

Thanks, I'll give it a try again. I know it does run fine, been using it without issue since I installed Windows 7 ages (seemingly) ago. Hadn't had any updates that I know of, or modified any settings and it flat stopped working all of a sudden. I'd hate to have to reinstall Windows over Subsonic but that's the last option.

Yeah, it's a pain to have to reinstall the OS; but if SS won't work it's a sign that there is something amiss with the OS. I usually try going through the logs to see if I can identify likely problems, then google the error msgs. to see if you can fix them. Sometimes things just get so far out of whack that a reformat can be the easiest fix.

I bought a new SSD recently thinking I was going to install it in my current desktop, only to realize that it would be such a hassle to migrate all my current apps that I may just wait until I build a replcement PC. This is MS's Achilles heal. Migrating to a new drive or fixing the OS install almost always leaves you shaking your head.

I loved the old DOS setup. Just copy and go!!
