The board was offline last night and it looks like we may have dropped a few posts on this thread, but there's no doubt that there is a huge difference between consumer and professional grade quality. Those old routers may be a bit behind the curve in the speed dept. but I'll bet they are rock solid.

I've been troubleshooting some network issues here for a few weeks that have been driving me crazy. Folders were taking way to long to populate in explorer when trying to browse the network, I had a WHSV1 machine that would never show automatically, and in general there just seemed to be too much lag in the network.

This morning we had a power failure and my battery didn't hold up and all the servers crashed. Guess what? All the above issues have now been fixed! Go figure. I had previously flushed all dns caches, did GPO forces, and on and on to no avail - but a good ol' fashioned crash fixed everything.

Yep standard IT helpdesk response - have you rebooted the computer
I think that is why Microsoft update insists on restarting your pc - nothing about "can't update your files while they are in use" :D
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, Image but some abuse the privilege!

Due to the confusion from too many genres of music, we have decided to put both country music and rap music into the genre of Crap music.

Yes that's true, but in this case it may be a bit more complicated. I think it may have involved refreshing the routers and switches as well as all the attached PC's.

In any event, the network response times are lightning fast now. :D

We do rebbot all desktops once a week on Wed. after updates and scans are done. I guess it's time to do a complete shutdown/restart of the whole network once a week.
