Cannot access subsonic.log

Postby spookybathtub » Fri Apr 13, 2012 4:17 pm

I'm trying to view the full subsonic.log file to troubleshoot an issue I'm having. But when I look in the supposed location, I see a log file only 11 lines long, with entries from August 2011. In subsonic's web interface, under About, I can see the correct log, with entries from today. So those entries must be saved somewhere, but where?? The web interface says "The complete log is saved in /Library/Application Support/Subsonic/subsonic.log" and that's exactly where I'm looking. I'll attach the two logs in case that's helpful.

current log from GUI http://pastebin.com/VSqJBHBX

I see that in the instructions for linux installation, but on mac isn't it supposed to be in Application Support?

Either way, the /var/subsonic folder doesn't exist on my machine.

Try opening SS then click on About. It should tell you where the log is stored right under the log window just above the player bar.

On mine it says:

The complete log is saved in c:\subsonic\subsonic.log.

You also get kudos and high praise for best username

I appreciate your time Gary, but I already knew about that. The About tab tells me to look in /Library/Application Support/Subsonic/subsonic.log, as I said in my original post. I think this is a bug; are there any developers listening??

Try deleting/renaming the old log - it may be a permissions problem eg SS cannot write to the log file so we need to create a new one.

Unfortunately there is only one true "developer," Sindre. And I'm pretty sure he doesn't read every post on the board...

Where are the rest of your subsonic files stored (like the db folder, or the thumbs folder or something similar)?

Aha! That was it. For some reason the log file was owned by the wrong user. I can't believe I didn't think of that. Well thanks very much.

Logfile is a disappointment

Postby spookybathtub » Mon Apr 16, 2012 4:25 pm

Hey all you smart people,
The main reason I wanted to access the log in the first place is to get a record of all login attempts. But now I've realized that info is not in the log. It seems to contain only information about songs being played. Is there any way to log the logins? It's both for security and for statistics, as we will have around 150 registered users out of 6000 possible LDAP accounts.
