Hi again,

If you've read my first post, then you will now be aware that I am NOT a coder. I do however, like personalizing things. More out of the boredom of retirement, than anything else. Please don't laugh too loud, at my feeble attempts :oops: (pics below)

Obviously a failure on my part. Perhaps too colourful? Anyway, having looked at the excellent themes that people have been creating on this forum, I thought I'd go for a dark theme too. It's not far removed from the original 'Groove' theme (it was already pretty damn good as it was)

I added a glowy green clock, and changed the skin of the video player (not shown here). I made a dark logo (to better go with the overall theme) and made a few tweaks under the hood (all based on the work of you clever sods) so, from this n00b, to all you experts ... thank you for keeping this tired old brain of mine busy :)

Sorry for being a pain in the ar*e. I'm still messing with SS (should've left it alone) and have managed to add the extra button I wanted. I copied the youtube mod code, and then tried to utilize it for my galleries. (snippet below)

<td style="min-width:4em;padding-right:1.5em">
<a href="/youtube/index.html" target="main"><img src="../icons/youtube.png" height="32" width="32"></a><br>
<a href="/youtube/index.html" target="main">Youtube</a>
</td><td style="min-width:4em;padding-right:1.5em">
<a href="/landscapestest/index.html" target="main"><img src="../icons/pics-button small.png" height="32" width="32"></a><br>
<a href="/landscapestest/index.html" target="main">Galleries</a>
</td>

After first trying the button, as a second link to the youtube mod (which worked fine) I then proceeded to create a gallery folder, added the index file to the relevant folders, changed the paths to the new folders.etc, followed the same directory structure as everything else, loaded up some test images to the gallery, and then triple checked that all was ok (not that I have the faintest idea what I am doing) and well ... the screenshots below, tell the whole story :(

I'll persevere, in the meantime. And maybe, the '100 monkeys' theory will become a reality :oops:

Hi,
Seen your mods, and I really like the way you modded the coverartview to show some more albums.
Could you post your mod on that one?
Like you I'm not a coder or programmer, but like to change some things to my likings.
I must say that you're doing fine in your modding allthough I agree with you that some of your mods are a bit, let's say, less succesfull :wink:

Thank you for your comments :D All of the mods I have used, are from the 'mods' section on this forum. The only things I have done without the aid of the clever people on here, are changing the internal video player skin, and replacing the weather gadget with a clock.

My attempt at adding a photo gallery is not going well. Yes, I know there are already posts about such things on here, but I want to try to do it myself (very little chance of success, if I'm honest) But ... one must give it a go eh :)

I was working on a few other tweaks ... until I lost 6TB of data, (main and back up) within half an hour of each other, yesterday morning. Next time, I'll have to make a back up of the back up! Anyway, I digress.

When I'm back up and running, I will continue fiddling with SS, and post anything that actually works, on here. :lol:

Note: Never buy a Western Digital 'elements' hard drive .... let alone two! ... siGh :oops:

Yeah I know,
It's not a question IF a harddisk will crash, it's the question WHEN it will crash.
I myself use exclusively Samsung -disks. Found them to be very reliable and enduring.
Have some here running for 5 years 24/7 and still no sign of wear. ( There are some programs which monitor the health of your disks and send an e-mail if there are signs of upcoming problems.)
I have back-ups of back-ups of back-ups, so I'm not very worried about my data. :roll:

So I guess I'll have to scavenge the MOD-section to find some nice mods.
Thanks for your reply and hope you'll continue your modding, because some things you made really look nice.
Toolman.

Well, after losing my data (and back up) I was kind of despondent for a while. Six years wasted :( Anyway, after much red facedness, and even more head scratching, I have finally managed to add a photo gallery! Ok, no big deal to you clever people but, I have trouble understanding the instructions on my washing machine so, it was with relief and amazement, that I managed not to break SS in the process :lol:

I still have some tweaks to do. Such as, changing the background colour to match the rest of the theme, resize the main window, and to load up my own images, rather than some I borrowed from Google :roll: Here's a screencap of it in action. I used a hybrid youtube/porta/simple viewer install, because I'm thick, and can't code it from scratch :oops: The images can be scrolled via the mouse wheel, or the cursor keys.

Anyway, I've waffled on enough so, time for some sleep. Have a good day :)

Thank you :) And no, the images for the test gallery are all from Google. I will be replacing them with my own, once I have tweaked everything to my taste. There is no limit to the amount of images, and the library is auto generated. So, no sleepless nights, manually adding image details, etc. Porta/simpleviewer, is so simple (I can use it, so it has to be) and it's fast too. The images can be stored locally, or remotely. And, parameters such as quality, size, opacity, etc, can also be customized.

The only program that has impressed me more in recent years, is SS.

I've added games to my SS (please don't hate me, you purists out there!) my young nieces in France, enjoy flash games. So, I added yet another button, and a single game. I am working on a menu, from which she can pick from dozens of games. All are stored locally, so no accidental 'Russian bride' pics will pop up, while they are playing. It still needs tidying up a little though.

Oh, and the colour scheme hasn't freaked out. I am partially blind, and go 'high contrast', so I can see what I'm doing, and only change back once I have messed about, to get a rough idea of how things would look to others. I forgot to change back before taking the screencap :roll:

Very good work siGh, it's things like this that keeps pushing development forward so never be despondent in any way about your work.
I am surprised however that no one has asked you for the gallery and theme code. Both already look very good.
So will you post the gallery integration?
hope so!

In order for me (a non coder) to install a photo gallery, I downloaded Porta from here > http://www.stegmann.dk/mikkel/porta/download.php

Then simpleviewer was next > http://www.simpleviewer.net/simpleviewer/

Both apps are self explanatory, with regards their installation and use.

After selecting an images folder, (a folder of google supplied images in this test example I posted on here previously)

I then created an album, using Porta. (a right click context menu is included)

Simpleviewer, allows the user to tweak certain aspects of the gallery, before 'publishing'.

It generates the following files/folders, that can be found in the same folder as the images used for the album.

ext (folder) which contains the viewer.

medium (folder) which contains the main images.

small (folder) which contains the thumbnails.

There is an auto generated gallery.xml file

an index.html, which, for my usage, I renamed to index_ph.html so it wouldn't interfere with the youtube index file.

There is also an autorun document included, but that is only so the album can be run from the desktop, I believe. So, I haven't used it here.

The icons, I downloaded via google, resized them, and added them to the icons folder in SS.

You will see that all I did in effect, is copy and paste the code for the youtube mod (elsewhere in the mods section on this forum) and copy all required files and folders into the youtube directory, and changed the indexes, that the newly added buttons point to.

In my case, I now have: index.html (for the youtube mod) index_ph.html (for the photo gallery) and, index_play.html (for the games page)

Of course, if one doesn't have the rather excellent youtube mod installed, then, other than the clock code, none of the above will work.

With the exception of the clock, all content is local, thereby reducing loading times (everything is instantaneous, according to a friend who lives in Lithuania)

I really am sorry for the mess I have made of this reply. I'm sure I've missed something out. As I said, I'm not a coder, and did the best I could, with the 3 remaining brain cells that are still functioning.

If you have any further questions, please .. give me at least a day, to recover from this one :p

Have a nice day .. I'm going to lie down now :lol:

Great stuff thank you siGh, but without the youtube folder I'm stuck.
The original mod youtube.rar is missing, I dont suppose you still have it do you?

Hi again, thank you for your comments. I'm afraid I lost the original rar file, and the back up, when I had a major hardware failure the other week. I was thinking ... if you follow the creators original post, and add the following lines to your top.jsp

Immediately after the following:

<td style="min-width:4em;padding-right:1.5em">
<a href="nowPlaying.view?" target="main"><img src="<spring:theme code="nowPlayingImage"/>" title="${nowPlaying}" alt="${nowPlaying}"></a><br>
<a href="nowPlaying.view?" target="main">${nowPlaying}</a>
</td>

add:

<td style="min-width:4em;padding-right:1.5em">
<a href="/youtube/index.html" target="main"><img src="../icons/youtube.png" height="32" width="32"></a><br>
<a href="/youtube/index.html" target="main">Youtube</a>
</td>

Then place a youtube logo (.png format 32 x 32) in the icons folder in SS, all you should then need is the original index file, which is still available on this forum. Place it this folder > C:\subsonic\jetty\2583\webapp\youtube. You will have to create the youtube folder, since the original rar file seems to be inaccessible now. I have included a small screenshot (below) of the directory structure, to make things clearer than I ever could with words.

I was going to send you my index.html but, it would be wrong of me to do so, without the creators permission. I'm sure you understand.
I would also like to thank him/her for making it easier for a total dumba** like me to be able to add my gadgets, even though, I'm sure, that that was not what they had in mind!

I hope this is of some help. And, unless I've overlooked something ... it should work.

As always, stop SS, back it up, make the changes, and restart SS. you may have to clear your browser cache, in order for the changes to appear. If you're not sure ... don't risk it. I'd feel terrible if I messed up your SS install.

Thanks again for the great work siGh, and I'd completely missed the index.html attachment! I've now got my gallery and youtube mods installed and even styled too.
I couldn't have done it without you, well I could, if only I'd gone to spec savers :)
