Album Art Not Showing

Postby sotm31 » Mon Apr 23, 2012 6:18 pm

I am trying to update album art through the subsonic GUI.
I find my album, hit the change button, find my album art, select and it says "Image was successfully downloaded"
hit the back button, and I have no art.

Subsonic is running on a windows 7 machine, and the drives are external mac drives, being utilized by Mac Drive 9

Here is the log, when I actually get one. Actually here are two different tries with different results.

I just tried updating another piece of art, and nothing showed in the log.

Any help, much appreciated.

Sounds like Subsonic doesn't have write permissions on the storage drive.

EDIT: I've always had to setup a network share to get subsonic to use non-local storage drives and then edit the Subsonic service to use a logon that has permission to the share. It's all described in the Windows/Android tutorial.

I will check my permissions, but to be honest there have been nothing but issues with the windows 7 install.
When I log in remotely, and want to check my settings I get booted.
Log back in, try to check the log, get booted again.
ugh, I will look into everything. Had this system running perfect on a mac, might need to go back to'

Sorry to hear you're having problems with the Windows install. I have several Subsonic instances running on Windows without major issues.

There can be several possible causes for the problems you're seeing. The first is the OS itself. I usually look at event viewer to see if there are any clues as to what's causing problems. Then I also look at the Subsonic log to see if there are any obvious clues that help me identify a problem.

Installation of Subsonic can be a bit daunting at first, as most users struggle a bit with port forwarding and editing service log on permissions. Once you've been through it a few times it does get a bit easier, and once you've been through it a few hundred times, like I have it can be done in about 5 mins. LOL.

I do have a summary of the most common installation issues you're likely to encounter on the troubleshooting section at the link posted below. If you're confident that the OS is stable, I usually do a Java uninstall/reinstall then do the same for Subsonic.

Properly installed, the Windows version is very stable. I have one instance that has been runnig for months without any intervention that has about 350 GB of data and is regularly accessed by several users.

everything seems to be set up properly
Verified Java Version
Congratulations!
You have the recommended Java installed (Version 6 Update 31).

I have verified permissions for said drive to be set for everyone to have full access.

I am totally at a loss here.

i have included my log for further reference

The only issue I have is with the album art, I am able to access remotely, I am able to access on a phone, I am just having a problem with the artwork for my albums, I am getting to the point of just saying"screw the album art"

and I do not mean to come off a little "dickish" but I am getting extremely frustrated.

I have never had these types of issues on my mac, in fact, I have a successful music server on my mac now/.

If you would like to private message or email me, I can set up a log in, so you can see the issues I am having.

Thanks for your patience.

You are not using IE9 as a browser by any chance because if you are you need to select compatibility mode.
(Should be fixed in next SS version)

You could try deleting the contents of your SS thumbs dir c:\subsonic\thumbs and then re-index.
Also make sure you have given SS/Java enough memory - check how much is being used in the control panel.
I find 256MB works for me but it depends on how big your media library is (among other things).

I guess I will try allocation more memory to java. my library is huge almost a TB, because it contains alot of FLAC files.

will let you know here, I am just getting so frustrated.
'My mac library works perfect, in fact most of the albums that wont update art, already have the art in the album folder, could that be a problem. If so I will delete all art within the album folders

I have 512 allocated to the app, what is even weirder, when I do update art, and nothing shows, I log off, log back on and now the art is there.
I am also having an issue when logged in remotely, I keep on getting kicked out. Admin, or user account

Interesting description, "kicked out", can you describe the behavior in a bit more detail? I assume you're getting a logon screen to pop up but are unable to get in? Have you tried using a different username/password?

If you're not getting a logon screen then you probably don't have the port forwarding correct.

I am able to log-in, I have a port open, but when I start to navigate on the site, like check settings or look at the about screen, I get kicked out and referred back to the log-in screen. Log back in and I get the same results, time and time again. I can set up a dummy account if you think you can look into, if not, with all the problems I am having I may just do I full uninstall, delete the subsonic folder with all the data, and do a new re-install.
I am thinking that is my only option as of now.

I've never seen SS act the way you are describing. I think the clean reinstall is your best option as it's not likely that there would be anything I would see by logging in that would help. Just be sure to remember to edit the Subsonic service with the proper logon if your accessing a network share and to edit the port settings again after you do the install and you should be fine. It really doesn't take very long to do. If you use the same ports, you shouldn't have any forwarding problems.

There's no doubt that Subsonic can get a little quircky at times, but if you get it right it can run indefinitely without any problems and be incredibly functional. My daughter's away at college and uses SS to watch TV shows I record. I have another regular user that lives 1500 miles away and has no DVR option from his cable company and I record TV for him to watch as well. Add that to the access to my music library 24/7 and it's well worth the effort it takes to get everything working.

I've also made the point a few times that setting up SS can be one of the most educational experiences available to casual users. It really affords a great opportunity to learn a lot about permission settings, firewalls, and network management. Admittedly most users would probably prefer to just "set it and forget it" but knowledge is power and this can be a fun way to learn and get a terrific benefit as the end result.

After you reinstall let us know how you maj out and if there's anything else we can do to help.

Ok, I have removed program, and completely deleted the subsonic directory. Re-Installed and I am still having the same issues.
Are there any known issues with using MAC Drive 8 on a Windows 7 machine and storing music and art on the mac drive?
I do not have any permissions settings on the drive that is stroring music.

I have not seen this before either, but it is picking up some art from within the folder, but others will not get picked up and will not change.
(Bewildered) to say the least.

It looks to me if SS has read but not write permissions for those folders. Change the user that subsonic is running under to one with read & write access to those drives.
