How to deny acces

Postby LBC_Jigsaw » Mon Apr 30, 2012 8:52 pm

Hi all,

I ' m currently using Subsonic 4.6 on ubuntu.

I would like to know how to deny acces from different folder depending on users.

For exemple, I've a folders M, HD, SD ...

in each folders I've others folders that contain my medias. How can I deny acces to a subfolder of M for user A but allowed for user B ?

Thanks a lot

This has been requested for a long time. As yet, there is no way to do what you're asking.

I use multiple SS sites to accomplish segregating media as either public or private. doing the same thing on a single site is a feature we would all like to see implemented.

Well I guess your only option is to not open the site to anyone you don't want on there, or just not putting some media available to Subsonic.

"Several" sites? I would think 2 would be sufficient. I understand that everyone doesn't have access to excess hardware, but SS can run well in as little as 2GB in a virtual environment. RAM is pretty cheap and software for setting up a VM is available for free.

At present these are your only options.

I think GJ51 forgot about the option to alter the source code to fit your personal needs (or have some friend with programming skills do it for you). That's the beauty of an open source project, after all.

Good point. Most who post in the help forum usually are trying to get a grip on Subsonic basics, installation, and features; but occasionally more advanced users that have a skill level that would allow them to do some code mods do show up.

The best place to post questions regarding modding is in the modding section where the code mechanics hang out. They do browse help once in a while, but a user looking for modding help is more likely to get the help they need over there. I have occasionally done some custom mods and poked under the hood, but my experience has been that it's too hard to keep track of mods when the next verion upgrade rolls out as you don't have any way of knowing what has changed and what hasn't when you do the upgrade.

For that reason I've been content to just using the standard features and finding ways to use the standard install in ways that meet my needs. Modding is fun and educational, but not always practical for the average user.
