Can no longer stream video: Video not found or access denied

Postby mudsharkymon » Sat May 19, 2012 2:51 am

Oh no! I can no longer stream video! When I try the playback window opens with a single line of numbers across the player window. I push PLAY and I get the error:

Video not found or access denied.
/stream?pathUtf8Hex= [blah, blah, blah ]

Music still streams fine. Running on a WHS box. Videos are mp4, avi, wmv, or whatever.

I was having a problem where the left frame ALWAYS showed VIDEOS at start-up. I couldn't change it so I reinstalled SubSonic to fix it, but it's broke now in this other way! It happened after I:

1 uninstalled SubSonic
2 deleted SubSonic folders
3 reinstalled SubSonic

Also discovered that any MP3 encoded over 128 will not play !!! This is bad!

Any ideas?

This error can be a bit bothersome to track down, but it is cureable and is usually related to something simple to fix. I have many instances of WHSv1 and 2011 running SS without any problems. Have you read and followed the first two posts in the Windows tutorial section? Have you edited the Subsonic service permissions as outlined in the tutorial?

The Windows environment can throw up a few obstacles to getting everything running right, but if you read through the tutorials you should be able to get it working just fine.

I'd recommend diong a COMPLETE uninstall of both Java and Subsonic. Delete the C:\Subsonic directory. Do a clean Java install, then install Subsonic according to the instructions in the tutorial section here in the forum.

Get back to us if you have specific questions or don't understand something in the tutorial and we'll be happy to answer them. I might also suggest that you try installing the 4.7 beta 1 available at Sourceforge

http://sourceforge.net/projects/subsoni ... 4.7.beta1/

I personally think it's ready for prime time as I have it running and like it much better than earlier versions. it has a few bugs that aren't too bothersome, mostly cosmetic, but it runs much faster than previous versions. If you try the beta it is imperative that you do on a clean install. I haven't done complete upgrade testing, but I did have a few issues when I tried to just upgrade on instance from 4.6 to 4.7b1 and haven't yet determined if it was something I did or an issue that needs to be addressed by the developer. It may be why the release hasn't been widely advertised yet, as it doesn't do the notify in the current version of SS yet.

Either way, we'll be happy to assist you.

I looked at the 1st 2 tutorials (I didn't see a "Windows tutorial" section) but neither applied to my issue...
Java is re-installed & up-to-date.

Re: the "videos not playing" problem...
It seems only the INTERNAL player fails. If I choose to use an external player the video plays but then I get another problem: Buffering. No matter how low I set the kbps setting playback occasionally freezes. The internal player never did that... I see something under Settings for video playback called ffmpeg. Is that something that needs to be re-installed? I downloaded a current copy but do not see an installer.

Could it be a SubSonic 4.6 memory usage issue? I ask because since the "clean" re-install I have another new problem. If I select the MOVIES folder for instance it takes forever to display the sub folders.

Lastly the "No audio playback for MP3s encoded at over 128bps". What's up with that?

Thx
RG

I should have backed up the previous version before I started.

If you used the windows installer then ffmpeg and any other codecs reqd are automatically installed.

With regard to the video folder scanning that is due ffmpeg scanning the movie files to get tag info - because of that you do not want too many files in one folder.

The mp3 problem is more of a puzzle - does the SS log give any clues/errors?

Due to the confusion from too many genres of music, we have decided to put both country music and rap music into the genre of Crap music.

If you mean the SubSonic 4.6 .EXE installer? Yes I did. Still it does seem as though it didn't install, right? Can I (re?)install FFMPEG now, after the SubSonic install?

Ah! So each movie in it's individual sub-folder then.

I wish I had an answer but.. all MP3s now play OK. after just a reboot? Doubt that fixed it but all I can say is now all music plays.. Even tried the INTERNAL player option. Curious but now I have nothing AUDIO to troubleshoot!
