Android app randomly plays music when screen is off?

Postby vacant » Fri May 25, 2012 11:46 am

I have to be honest -- there's not much trouble shooting I've done for this problem because it's very sporadic and I'm not even sure what might be causing it.

I'm running version 4.6 (build 2583) of the server and version 3.3 of the android app. I noticed this started occurring when I installed a new version of a custom ROM for my Samsung Galaxy S II. The other thing is that it seems like it only happens when I'm using my computer (and perhaps logged into the subsonic server from my desktop). I initially noticed the issue before I went to work yesterday, I rebooted the phone before I went to work (and installed a different modem, but doubt that has anything to do with that) and while I listened to music off and on while at work, it didn't randomly play music while I was at work so I figured it was just a transient problem. However it did it again this morning -- it was around the time I was adding a CD to the server (which is when you see me play that first song). It just randomly starts playing a song, even when I'm not even touching the phone and have had subsonic "paused" for about 5-6 hours.

For what it's worth, I use a different subsonic account on my android phone ('chris') and when I do stuff from my desktop ('admin'). Don't know if that makes a difference.

Here's the last ten lines of my server status:

I've pinned all the songs from my playlists, so I'm guessing that's why it doesn't show up in the log -- for what it's worth, it was playing "夏 wanna say love U" by 9nine not long after I woke up, which was around 5:30 or so IIRC. When I noticed it was playing it was at the beginning of the song, making me think the "next" button was getting triggered somehow, but I don't remember exactly what song was playing the last time I was actually listening to music. Everytime I notice it start playing it seems to start playing a different song.

I'm using the Subsonic android client as pretty much an offline mode (although not explicitly the offline mode) as all my songs are pinned and I really only have one playlist I really listen to that has a fair amount of songs in it.

Any ideas of why this is happening? My first thought was that it had something to do with the ROM I installed, but I have no clue why it would affect Subsonic when I doubt the author of the ROM even uses that software. I don't even know where to start with this, and it'd probably suck to have it start playing music on the sales floor.

Thanks!

My phone just started playing music again while at home. It definitely seems to start at the beginning of the next song in my play queue.

I have noticed that most of the time when it starts playing music on its own is when my phone doesn't have a signal. That's most of the reason why the last time I rebooted I installed a different modem to see if it reacted any differently. I get fine service while at work but my signal is kinda crappy at home..

This might somehow be ROM related, but I still have no clue why.

Any luck?

Don't know if this is related, but...

I recently started experiencing a similar thing. Subsonic has launced and started playing after ending a call a couple times, even when I haven't used the app in several days (I use Subsonic to pull music to the phone, but do all playback with with Poweramp). My phone is a Moto Droid Razr, stock ROM (but rooted with minimal mods). Bluetooth or a headset may have been involved each time, but I can't remember (and yes, the media buttons option has been disabled since I installed it). I had a similar issue on my previous phone with Subsonic as well. I believe I had a thread on this forum on that, but don't remember- it was probably a year ago or so (or it may have been that when this happens, the exit button in subsonic doesn't seem to kill it). Subsonic isn't the only app, Google Listen has done this a number of times as well.

What happened on my phone today might not be related. My phone has played "And The Beat Goes On" by the Whispers several times, completely randomly. Once before work, and twice at work - both times while in meetings no less. I assumed it was either Subsonic or Poweramp, but I'm not sure now. Media volume does nothing, ringer volume turns it down. If I launch Poweramp and hit play, it will start playing the last track (which hasn't been this one) where it left off - at the same time; Hitting stop only affects the Poweramp playback. The last time it happened, I launched the task manager and tried to kill Subsonic, but noticed not only was Subsonic not running, but no other media apps were either. Launching Subsonic, I can play a different track and the same thing happens as Poweramp- both songs play at the same time; Stopping the subsonic track leaves The Whispers playing.

I don't think it is Subsonic at all in my case, but an alert for an app that has somehow gotten mapped to this track (which I did download to my phone via Subsonic, but weeks ago). This makes some sense considering it plays the song once and stops. A quick google search indicates I am not alone in this issue- some have suspected the facebook app. Something tells me it might be the Tapatalk forum app... I recently changed its alert sound to the facebook pop sound.

But given the Subsonic issues, I would so prefer if I had the option to enable a setting which would ensure the app would not launch itself in the background once I have exited - until I launch it again manually. I don't do any kind of podcasts with it, or anything that needs updating, there are no ads, so why does it need to do anything?

Yes, sadly I have the same problem. It's very bad considering that I sometimes leave my phone at my desk at work and I'm in long meetings. When I come back my colleagues buried my phone under a pile of jackets to drown out the sound.
Or I sat in a meeting and the phone started playing 3 times by itself...

This shouldn't be happening!

There is another thread about this issue: viewtopic.php?t=7974
