....subsonic.org returned HTTP error code 404 [Resolved]

Postby Schakine » Wed May 30, 2012 7:27 am

 "myname.subsonic.org returned HTTP error code 404 Not Found ..."

Subsonic was working no problem for one year and suddenly stopped and i could not connect to my server anymore..I am on windows 7..Check the ports with open ports check tool..absolutely no problem..It can see my port and IP fine,so this is not a router issue..I uninstalled the overall three times and java as well (i thought it could be Java updates) with no change..I tried other names for my server but with no luck except ali.subsonic.org (???) which did answered but I could not get in as user name and password were rejected..all the others names gave me the ".subsonic.org returned HTTP error code 404 Not Found "
Well, this is quite fascinating and I am shure I will learn something again about my favourite app WHEN I WILL RESOLVE THIS thank to our beautiful community of people..
Yes I did suppress a few times C:/Subsonic and entered everything again with no luck..I have Avast and Comodo but I tried without it with no luck..
WHAT ELSE? :D

ok i found the trick so i am posting it for everyone..my box which is also a router as well as providing ADSL has an external remote possibility which is,I just discovered ,is using the same port I am using for subsonic..Occasionally,I turned it on for no reason and it blocked return access to my subsonic server..I could see my ports outside the LAN but the return signal could not be transmitted..i have turned it down again and..Back to normal!

This sounds like the problem I am having. It works fine if I am on my internal network, as it points my xxxxxx.subsonic.org domain to my private IP address, but if I try to access my site externally (on my iphone using 3G and no wifi), I get the 404 error, and checking the xxxx.subsonic.org domain settings in my setup, it says it's registered but can't connect to it.

All my router settings and my no-ip.com forwarding settings are correct, so it's not an issue with either of those.

Yes..You are better checking if your router do not have this remote "facility" turned on as it used the same port number and blocks or re routs your connection to itself..and the trick is that it seems everything is fine as you can see your ports open from outside your LAN..In my case, it was a remote control option but in your's it can be something else like an other functionality..you are better check with your management

I am the management... lol... guess I have some more digging to do... Just updated to Fedora 16, from 15, haven't tested Subsonic yet. Waiting a bit before upgrading to 17, as it was just released...

Update: Rebooted my router (and did nothing else), and Subsonic works now.

It's truly amazing to me how often we see this as an issue. Who would think that you'd need to reboot the router to get a port to forward correctly? I've never had this happen to me in 30 yrs., but we do see it here in the forum reported quite frequently.

Yeah, and it's a brand new Cisco router... had it up for 21+ days with no problems. Replaced my Netgear, which I had to reboot about 2-3 times per day (for other issues).

I guess once a month is better than 2-3 times per day...

Yep,This is a very usual problem with router..they are getting more and more sophisticated and even if in theory your subsonic ports are open, somehow in the way, there is a block you do not see...Did you look at your DHCP as sometimes if you have to reboot a few times it could be when DHCP changes its IP

Good point. I forget sometimes that others don't always follow all the advice I've given in the tutorial and in multiple posts over the past two years. I always recommend setting the Subsonic host machine to a local static ip high in the address range so that DHCP can't interfere with it or change it to a new address. I also set the ip manually on the NIC settings so that the ip is hard set at both ends. Routers can do some wierd voodoo if you don't tell them to behave.

I have "reserved DHCP" addresses for all of my computers, so they all get the same IP address every time. I also have my router/firewall configured with no-ip, so it will automatically update my external IP address if my ISP decides to change it (which they have done before!)

I also have separate VLAN's for wired and wireless connections, just so I can tell how I'm connected much easier (I have a laptop that I connect both wireless and wired, so if one goes out, I still have connectivity.)
