Jukebox over Bridge Server

Postby xefil » Wed Dec 21, 2011 7:22 pm

Hello to all!

I've set up Subsonic with some friends on a server located in the office :-)
I can reach the server from everywhere and all works well.
Now I would like to test a kind of jukebox feature that allows me to control a home-pc over iPhone app in jukebox mode, but the music should be played on the home server, not in the office.

Something like this:

[iPhone] -> jukebox-control -> [Subsonic-bridge instance with sound capabilities but *no* local files] -> stream -> [office server with all files on public IP]

At the moment I'm only able to play subsonic contacting it directly from iPhone and let play the iPhone or using my home-pc with XBMC and the subsonic plugin. In this last way I cannot manage the lists from the iPhone of course.

Is there a way to control via iPhone the music that is streamed from the office server to a home-server with boxes connected on?

Thanks a lot

TY for the link, that's exactly what I need. BTW what I've read there isn't a solution for that (maybe).
Using UNC paths (don't know how) means to set-up a completley additional SS Server. A proxy-mode version would be something we're searching :)

Yup. I modified my server so much, (including today!) I can't install a server on every other computer.

What about a mini-server? It would login to subsonic using the api, and would be assigned a player of your choice. On any other computer or device, you select the correct player, and play the music. The mini-server would monitor the nowplaying using the ajax that the right pane uses.

Wow, have received email notification of a post on my thread now.... only a half of year later :D
Are there news about this qustion?

@ytechie
I've not fully understood your solution. Meanwhile I've fond an interesting workaround. As written on the first post, our server is in the office and what I would to do is to play the music from the home computer. BUT I need to control the home computer over iPhone. The solution comes from the last XBMC version 11.0. It supports AirPlay. Also I'm using the iPhone Subsonic player to listen music, but then I redirect via AirPlay the stream to my home server. The scenario also now is:

[Office Server] -> stream -> [iPhone @Home] -> stream -> [XMBC pc via AIRPlay].

Ok, In this way I've two times the stream trought my wireless network, because the stream comes from the office server via DSL line to my Wifi Access Point, then via WiFi to my iPhone, then via WiFi from my iPhone to the XBMC. The traffic is not so much; bottlenecks are on the DSL line, not on the local LAN of course.

This solution works but has a big disadvantage: Having the stream go trought the iPhone, it's not a remote controller (like jokebox mode) but a bridge between Office server and home server. It means if I close the player, the music stops. And in addiction it drains the battery faster.
So, whenever a subsonic client will be released, that in fact will support a jukebox mode, than all will work perfectly! A whish list?

Cheers, Simon

Due to the confusion from too many genres of music, we have decided to put both country music and rap music into the genre of Crap music.
