You might want to think about just reformatting these to mp3 with a utility so that they don't have to be transcoded.

I'm pretty sure this is a DRM issue.

I think it's because they are wma lossless
I downloaded some test files and with the latest ffmpeg zeronoe static build I could get the 16bit version to play
However I couldn't get the 24bit one to work.
I was testing in jukebox mode but when I checked using the web player NO transcoded audio would play
No errors! ffmpeg said it was transcoding but all I heard was silence interrupted with the sound of grinding teeth
So went back to the ffmpeg.exe shipped with SS - sound again  - but not for lossless wma :(

There are also some ideas in this thread:

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=8440&p=38876&hilit=lossless+wma#p38876

The problem may be with the wma being lossless.

Still can't get the 24 bit to play though.
What it does with video files though I do not know but flv's play ok

AMAZING - It works on the WAR install! Using the latest Zeranoe build. I'll now have to compare to see if I'm running the same version on my Standard Windows install.

This whole trying to figure out which versions of ffmpeg I need on which platform for which filetypes is getting old.

BUT IT WORKS!!

It's not DRM, I have it working, but it wasn't easy.

http://webserver.subsonic.org/share/PdxtH

It works on the WAR install with the latest Zeranoe ffmpeg build.

Bushman4 and I have done some testing along these lines and found that the WAR version does transcoding better than the standard Windows install. Who knows why?

Interestingly, working with Glenn Sullivan we found that the WAR cersion can play some file types that won't play on the std Windows install unless you play around with the different ffmpeg versions like I've been doing for a while. I was able to get this working in the WAR install site, but then it won't do the wma > ogg transcode for mobile that works with my files.

I really wish SS would just use an embedded VLC as it's player and let VLC do all the playback. VLC just plays everything without all ths fooling around.

Don't feel bad, this isn't entry level stuff. We all struggle with different aspects of Subsonic depending on our individual experience level.

I think that switching to the WAR version may be your easiest answer if you have a large library with the same files types. I tried using different ffmpeg versions with the standard win install to no avail and then to my amazement I was able to get it workin fine on the WAR version. The WAR version is a slightly trickier installation, but even I was able to get it working, so it can't be too tough. Many of the forum contributors here actually understand what they're doing, but like most readers I'm just a determined user who tries everything until I get it to work. I don't understand why it works, but I don't really care, I just want to get things to work.

So I would say that the WAR should be the best answer for you and we will be happy to assist if you run into problems. There should be some guides regarding the WAR install around here somewher, but I'll let you do the searches. The instructions on the download page are pretty much all I used.

http://www.subsonic.org/pages/installation.jsp#war

I installed Apache Tomcat ver. 6 - whatever the latest 6.X was and set the port to what I had set up for SS.

Then just follow the instructions above. Other contributors here are more experienced and knowledgeable than I am. but I'm sure you'll get the support you need if you decide to go that route.

Keep us posted.

And just to add even greater confusion the file that Gary tested was a 16 bit wma lossless.
You need to check your files and see if they are the same - if they are 24 bit they may not work and it will be a lot of fathing around for nothing.
