well, i finally got around to install 4.7b2 on a semi-identical machine (actually slower cpu & less ram). just moved about 8k files over to it for testing. it actually finished scanning in about 2hrs (

)
subsequent scans seemed to take just as long, what is an issue that has to be addressed in the dev. - many other proggies show that later scans can (and should be a lot faster, just having to "fill in" the new stuff)
it means for me also (i am open for other suggestions) that the insanely long scan times on big databases are not a hardware but a software prob. (i like to point out at this one, i used kplaylist for a long time - before switching to ss. mainly due to the nicer user interface). with an at the time large db (about400k files) scanning took it's time, but was usually done within a couple hours (now one could get also to the extremely comfy genre search there, but thats another issue altogether).
anyway, i am aware it is a beta version! and also that it just underwent a huge rewrite, so probs are supposed to show up. it's the nature of beta's.
so for now i stick with 4.6, but looking forward to 4.7 final and improved since i really liked what i saw sofar.
cheers, l
