To the OP
The link I gave you is for WINDOWS ffmpeg
Do not use that if you have moved SS to another OS

Sorry, I don't use a NAS to host SS so I can't tell how to move forward. I've tested the files on 4.7 and I don't think that, in and of itself, 4.7 will be a cure all for your problem.

WMA and lossless transcoding has been a troublesome issue for a long time that requires some tinkering to get working. I just can't tell what would be the best answer on your hardware as I've never used it before.

Even if you were to get the transcoding working, I don't know what CPU is in there and if it has the capacity for the transcoding load you'd be putting on it. Transcoding music isn't as CPU intensive as video, but it would still have some performance impact.

Building a cheap server from an old box is usually better option for hosting SS if you have an old box laying around. My basement is littered with old desktops and laptops lying around that would make adequate platforms for hosting Subsonic. ebay is another possibility for getting cheap old servers that are up to the task.

That's about all I can share, not having ever used the NAS your using.

EDIT: Almost any old computer/laptop is probably going to be faster than the NAS. you should be able to store the music on the NAS and access it from the host machine easily if you go that route.

Here is a link to the spec

I thought it would have the grunt to do the deed in question .

Thanks again for your continued support

It may very well have enough power for music, but it's hard to tell from the spec sheet. It's using a 2 GHz CPU, but it doesn't say what kind. 512MB of ram is probably OK, but you still have to remember that this hardware is designed to handle the load of the NAS, it's not really designed for hosting a server. Most companies (think HP for the best example) usually only put in the hardware they need to run a device like this without a lot of extra capacity built in.

There's no doubt that units like this can be hacked to do additional things, but ask yourself; if you were running a company competing in the NAS market, would you put more hardware into a retail unit than it needed to do the function it was designed for? There's no free lunch here, if you put more stuff into the NAS for it to run, it's taking that horsepower from something else that it was designed to do. There are a lot of possibilities and I'm sure there are others who would totally disagree with me, but you have a problem to solve. So what's the best approach? You have some options. You can continue to try getting it to work on the NAS. I don't give that much of a chance for success, but it is possible if you hit on just the right things that need to be done. Second, you could reformat all of you music to MP3 so that there isn't any transcoding needed. This can be pretty time consuming depending on what kind of resources you have. Or, third you can just move Subsonic onto a platform that can do the job more easily.

I've put SS on just about everything but a NAS to test the limitations of what different platforms can and can't do when I was trying to get better results with video. From atom powered netbooks to old laptops to dual quad core Xeon servers, I've pushed the limits on all of them to see the impact hardware has on each SS function. Unfortunately, I never tried the NAS option as I don't have one. On all the other platforms. running windows, I was always able to get just about everything working without too much trouble, including the files you sent.

So, that's about it. At some point you'll have to decide what's the best route for you to get SS hosting your library.

The 212+ uses a 2GHz ARM v5 (Marvell Kirkwood mv6282 2.0Ghz ARM Processor (Marvell ARMADA 300) 16-bit@DDR3, 512MB of RAM)
http://forum.synology.com/wiki/index.ph ... y_NAS_have

I have got the previous version (211+) and it is far away from transcoding in real time. I haven't tested wma but mp3 down sampling and flac transcoding takes roughly twice as long as playing. If wma has to be transcoded to play it in Subsonic I am not very confident it will play anywhere near real time. For non transcoded play it works very well.
Things are looking much better with atom cores (DS 712+ for example).
(if somebody is into this transcoding thing: shine encoder is about 15 times faster than ffmpeg on this ARM cores it would be great if somebody could integrate this into Subsonic, I will begin to try next week ;) http://sourceforge.net/projects/libshine-fxp/ )

You can access the NAS via ssh (with putty for example) user: root / pass: <pass of admin account>
The Directory which Subsonic is installed to with my package is:
/volumeX/@appstore/Subsonic/Subsonic
X is the number of the volume you selected during installation

Executable files (such as ffmpeg) must be compiled for ARM Linux. You can not use any "normal" x86 Windows or Linux files on the NAS.
