I'm using your "experimental" v. 0.6.2 and, in the 6 hours or so that I've had it up and running, have had 186 players created so far. They are showing up as "android [null]" in the players dropdown. On that same page (Settings-->Players) the Type lists "(Unknown)" and Last seen is blank. That's all I've noticed so far that's strange with this version.

Edit: Now up to 819 players. Going to try a lower revision.

Edit 2: I didn't go to a lower revision. I went for the record. I hit nearly 1600 players last night before deleting them all. Overnight, none were created. I have no idea what caused that (nothing in the log other than the line that it was creating another player), but it seems to have automagically resolved--at least temporarily. It wasn't just "android[null]". I installed Perisonic to try it out briefly and that ended up creating several hundred "perisonic[null]" players which continued to be created even after I uninstalled Perisonic.

The only difference for me is that Track number and Disc number are in the format of 1, 2, 3, 4. Not 1/4, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4.

Also, I've seen the compilation "option" in iTunes, but I've never looked to see what it does to the id3 tags. I rip using EAC and compilation discs are done by checking the "Various Artist" checkbox.

those are the exact tags I use. I don't use the compliations anymore since I don't use iTunes any longer. That being said, I understand it's need.

I also had a program that did not handle the track 4/7 or album 1/3, so if I rip it with dbPoweramp, it doesn't do that.. it just tags them as track 4 and album 1 respectively. It dispalys correct in subsonic/musiccabinet, and my sonos library so I'm happy.

I list the artists as Firstname Familyname, not Familyname, Firstname. Also, The Who are labeled as such... not Who, The.

My collection does not contain a lot of classic music so, my Tags are horrible with classic music. Sonos dictated a lot my tagging habits, and initially it did not follow Musicbrainz, so most of my tagging was based on that...

I'm running into a problem trying to get MusicCabinet working on my Ubuntu machine. I've installed Subsonic using the Ubuntu/Debian package provided on the main Subsonic page. I replaced subsonic.war (located inside /usr/share/subsonic) with your subsonic.war, but when starting the subsonic service and loading up the webpage, I receive the following friendly message:

I am running Subsonic 4.6 in Ubuntu 12.04 and experiencing the same "Service Unavailable" error... This brings to mind two questions:

1. Is anyone successfully using MusicCabinet in Linux?
2. Could the problem be Java related? I ask this because I am using OpenJDK 6. Does MusicCabinet require version 7, or possibly the proprietary Sun Java packages instead of the open source OpenJDK ones?

I have been wanting something like MusicCabinet for a long time now, and am very excited to check it out... Any help getting it working would be greatly appreciated!

Hi!

The "Service Unavailable" is most likely due to a conflict between Spring 2.5.6 (which Subsonic 4.6 is built on) and Spring 3.1 (which MusicCabinet is built on).

To get rid of that, I upgraded Subsonic to use Spring 3.1 as well. See the latter part of this long post for an explanation. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=9777#p42742

I asked crazyoldman to try it and he/she reported it to work well. I've been using it myself for a while without issues. Not sure about how well it works for mobile clients - user Ultraviolet reported an oddity that I haven't addressed yet.

So, shortly: try http://dilerium.se/musiccabinet/subsonic-beta.war (and rename to subsonic.war) but make sure to do a backup of your current settings beforehand - it upgrades the Subsonic password handling from using clear text passwords to salted hash sums, so there's no going back.

Java 7 is not required (yet). If you try the beta, please report further experiences in this thread!

Yeah, me too. Made me realize that it should be configurable whether to use last.fm or simply use local album artwork. Might even be a good idea to store the artist pictures locally (if that's allowed by the terms of service).

Falling back to local pictures after a timeout would definitely help

+1 for the album artwork. This mod is useful for the genre cloud and radio additions. My main problem is the album graphics. I would like to see an option for local pic store also.

i experienced some problems with artist names that do contain special characters like "?" or ":"...
the albums of those artists (for example for the artist "Does it offend you, yeah?") can't be placed in an folder with the exact correct name ("Does it offend you, yeah?") because windows (yes, my server is running on a windows machine ) does not allow those characters in foldernames. so the folders name is slightly different from the real artists name ("Does It Offend You, Yeah"). when i click on such an artist in the left frame, the artists albums will show up, but no information or last.fm stuff (like related artists, top tracks...) will be displayed. i suppose the sql-query with the folders-name (which is just a little bit different from the artist-name) does not return anything usefull. furthermore, when i have an artist with special characters in the playlist, and i click on the album in the playlist, it brings me to the correct artist-page with last.fm info.

some example artists with this problem:
