Flac Out in Jukebox

Hi there , searched but seemed to get conflicting answers , I wish to output un-transcoded flac in jukebox mode as there is no need for transcoding at home , also any chance 24 bit support? Any answers tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated , Regards

i do this all the time, just turn off the transcoding option for the player that you use in jukebox mode.

I just noticed that ffmpeg transcode still comes up in the log. My guess is that since Subsonic's media library doesn't have flac capabilities (I read this somewhere?), Subsonic is transcoding it to PCM wav?

It seems like Subsonic always transcodes flac to the 'au' format in jukebox mode (it doesn't matter if transcoding is activated in the jukebox player or not).
The transcoded file has a 16 bit PCM stream (pcm_s16be), so the outcome (of a 16bit flac) is still lossless.

The problem with this method is:
a) 24 bit FLACs will be transcoded to 16bit
b) unnecessary transcoding to au -- why not play files directly (transcode to wav)

Yea, seems unnecessary for that extra transcode. Don't mind the 24bit to 16bit as much since I have...two albums in 24bit?

I've done some comparing of Subsonic flac transcoding on the jukebox vs. a native player on the host machine. The transcoding Subsonic is doing introduces some seriously inferior audio qualities, including but not limited to peak distortion.

I suppose my option at this point is just to use a native player on the host, but man I hope native Flac comes to subsonic soon.
