What name do you mean?

Your license code is tied to your email address. Those two are the only things that are "fixed..." You can change Custom Domain names whenever you want, as well as the rest of the settings.

You'll need to clarify what you mean by "edit the name of subsonic configuration."

If you mean "Change the custom domain name that is assigned to me" that can be done on the Network panel of the settings.

Then I would start playing with the themes and create (or find) a theme that has the graphics and name you want. Force that theme to be the default and you are done...

Oversimplified, yes. But I do not think that there is a "theme" tutorial.

Hi,

I recently had to some computer issues and needed to freshly install everything on a new HDD. That being said, I've set up my iSub/Subsonic all again and just need my license key again (I've already made a donation). I know that it is tied to my email addy, but if you need any further info, please let me know.

Let me know what I need to do to fix this.

Regards,

Justin

If you have lost your original licence key then just email Sindre who will send you a copy.

Not to be the cynic in the group, but I almost gave the same response until it dawned on me that I would prefer that Sindre spend his time developing rather than resending keys to those who don't figure out how to store their keys in a safe location.

It's not that I'm unsympathetic or don't understand that we all make mistakes, but if I were Sindre I'd respond with "just make another donation."

A small price to pay for the user's own mistake considering how small the min. donation is. A good way to learn a simple lesson with a bit of negative reinforcement that isn't too painful and would help support the dev.

Just one man's opinion - who recognizes that it may not be too popular.

All flames gleefully tolerated.

I must agree With GJ51.
Is it so much trouble to print out your license-key and e-mailadress and store that somewhere safe?
I mean, didn't we all learn to back-up, back-up, back-up, back-up and back-up?
And if you've got some spare time maybe you just could make some back-ups?
Just to be on the safe side?
If you lose your windows product-key then you know that you're gonna have to pay to get a new one.
Don't see why Sindre should be obliged to send you your key.

I donated to Subsonic and received my license number, but cannot register it. The instructions say to click the donate link in the upper right corner, but there is no such link. I wrote to Sindre, who replied right away. But he said to go to the "About" page and click on the PayPal link to see what it says. There is no "About" page to go to. Can anyone help?

bobber wrote:I just wanted to share my opinion on the topic because I just began using Subsonic and it is really a combination of everything that should be correctly done regarding remote music library access : HTTPS support, Browser-playback, GPLv3 using ffmpeg to transcode, video transcoding support etc.

In my opinion it really shows the potential of the GPL licenses regarding software reuse to build a totally new purpose application.

That being said, I was a bit surprised about the donation scheme, although I totally understand the need/will to be remunerated for the ammount of work done, I didn't automatically understand the donations were mandatory to use the mobile phone apps or the underlaying API, it was just when the aforementionned apps popped the warning message that I had to go back to the website and read about the "donation" in order to continue using them.

So I share the same opinion as barrettj, elementz and the others: the premium API-access features should be clearly "advertised" as such on the main page of the website and maybe it shouldn't be called "donation".

Reading Sindre's post clarified the reason behind keeping the term "donation" so far, but I figured it could be changed just so that future users are quickly aware that you must pay a certain ammount to get the premium feature of using Smartphone apps or the API.

Subsonic is free !
You can do what you want with the software, even if you don't pay.
Because it's opensource, you can fork the program as you want, and use the "premium" features (except the *.subsonic.org redirection, but dyndns can replace it). Some modders already did that.
So yes, paying to use it is not compulsory.
Although, when you understand the work behind this software, and its possibilities, giving 10 bucks for that is not a lot. I gladly gave money to Sindre, hoping it would help him to continue with his brilliant work.

+1

We have discussed this a few times before.

Internet connection fee?
Computer cost?
Cell phone fees?

Oh, but let's whine about $10 - or $20 that we can customize endlessly that runs on multiple platforms that we can use on multiple insatllation with one key.

Sure, I'm sympathetic.
