Songs not autoplaying and advancing for some albums

Postby Ronald Pagan » Thu Jul 26, 2012 4:52 pm

Have a vexing problem with subsonic. I've been using the program for over 3 years now with few problems on a Windows Home Server box.

Anyway, recently a problem has been emerging that when I go to play an album the album playlist will load, the song will download from the server but the song wont automatically start playing. To get the song to play I need to advance the play timer a second ahead and then it will start playing. After the song is finished the next song wont automatically start playing until I do the same cursor trick.

The really funny thing is that this is an issue only for some albums, not all. I do not know what the common link is between albums. It happens for albums in different folders and happens on albums with the same encoding. Really frustrating.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program as well as updating to the newest version of Java v6. No dice though. Please help I love subsonic but this simply will not do.

Is the problem only when playing playing via a web player or other device/jukebox?
If browser what is it?
Also what is your SS memory allocation? If it still at the default 100mB I suggest upping it to 250mB.

Problem happens over multiple different browsers.

It happens with the webplayer. When I switch the player for the albums that are not working to external player the songs do not load.

Memory limit is at 256 megs.

I have a suspicion that this is some problem with Java.

I am running the same OS and java version as you and haven't noticed any problems :?
Check if the files that wont play are VBR
Sometimes a corrupted vbr file header can cause similar issues.

How would I check if the file has a corrupt VBR header?

This is most likely the issue.

Two programs I use which I find invaluable for sorting out "dodgy" mp 3 are vbrfix for windows and mp3 validator.
If you run either of those programs they will scan your files and tell you if you have a problem.
A couple of things to look out for are the bitrates reporting wrongly or more likely the wrong track length being shown.

e.g. I had one track being shown as a 54kbs file with a track length of 27 mins
(It was actually a 260kbs file with a length of 4:30 mins)
SS played it OK but then stuck 23 mins of silence on the end
