Sorting video files from different folders.

Postby Teejay187 » Mon Jul 30, 2012 2:46 pm

Hi,

I have pretty much gotten all my questions answered by this forum, but this one is bothering me a bit.

I have video files spread over 3 disks. How can I gather them together in the same category? I tried to make 2 media folders with the same name, but these show up beside eachother. How can I get all my video files gathered under the "Videos" category?

And thanks for a great forum and a awesome application. If I get this working, I will surely donate!

That can't be done within the application at this time. There may be ways to get around this using the operating system you're on, but it's not a given. Please post your OS details in case there is someone else who knows how to do this on your OS.

Hi,
Thanks for your answer. I am currently on Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit.

Distributed File System is a Server 2008 role that makes logical shares from multiple paths.

The easiest way to do this is to just create a third combined folder for Subsonic to access. You can then use Synctoy to periodically update the combined folder from the donor folders.

DFS didnt cut it.. Drive Bender however did work excelent.

I made a folder on each disk named "Movies". Then I merged both into a pool. On the new drive X: there is one movie called Movies nad all the content is found in subsonic.

Excellent. I'll take a look at Drive Bender when I get a chance. There are also some new drive and file management tools in Server 2012 that may work, but I haven't fully reviewed them yet.

Keep in mind that if you have a Subsonic installation that is not on the same host, it will want to see those files as a network share rather than a mapped drive. Does Drive Bender let you do that?

Yes,

Drivebender will let you set up either a drive letter or a share. So if you have a ton of music/movie files on different disks, you can gather these together in drive bender to make one share or drive letter.

What I would like to know is how drive bender sorts new files added to the virtual drive or share. Which of my 2 disks does the file get sent to.. I hope they dont split in half :?

I think it would be a great idea to start a new thread in say general with regard to all the new tech regarding windows server technology.
With drive bender, drive pool and obviously the new revived drive extender (server 2012/windows 8 ),
I am sure a lot of windows users would benefit from a discussion on the all the pros/cons that we find.

PS anyone writing windows 8 don't put the text in brackets as you end up with windows smiley face with sun glasses
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, Image but some abuse the privilege!

Due to the confusion from too many genres of music, we have decided to put both country music and rap music into the genre of Crap music.
