I'm pretty sure that's right, but I don't have an iPhone to test with. I've seen one report of this working on Roku and ios with the beta 3 release.

HLS video should be coming to Android 3.4 as well.

Thanks Gary,

I have an Android device running 4.0.3 and I can connect to HLS video streams, but the video is really choppy, don't know why.

I have an iPad that I use here and there, and I want to use the Subsonic web interface on it, but of course it wont run because of flash or java (can't remember which) but if the New version of Subsonic supports HLS, then I guess the web interface will just stream directly to the iPad?

I don't mind about Android because the Subsoinc android app is really good, and its free ;)

Alan.

Many thanks for this update -- running well on my 130+ gb collection. Scan times are way down, and album sort-by-year is working well. Can't wait until its easy to have listings by artists / genre as well as direct file listings -- any idea if this is in the works? (For now, I'm still using symmusic (https://github.com/jmeb/symmusic) to replicate this functionality.)

Nice to see MiniSub incorporated. Unfortunately when I enter my credentials and server (music.mymainsite.org) it fails to bring up any of the music from SS. I've turned on the debug mode but am still lost as to where to begin troubleshooting. Any logs that would detail why nothing is loading into Minisub I can check out? I'm using the built-in instance of MiniSub, fails on both Chromium and Firefox.

Just wanted to post a reply after finally taking the plunge and upgrading to this beta version.

Initially, I thought I was screwed, but just had to be patient and wait for the scan to finish.
All the playlists converted over and all my files and folders are visible and play flawlessly. I absolutely love how fast the index is now when clicking on anything. I haven't encountered any errors or issues as of yet.

The only thing that I would like to do, is to be able to move the playlists on the left hand pane down, below the content. I like the fact that it is there, but would like to see all the folders and stuff above that.

Anyway, just wanted to report in for those Ubuntu users that are using the standalone version.

Thanks!
Aethies

Hey
I'm testing the beta3 on Jboss 7.1.2 on Debian, not encountered any major crashes or bugs yet, which is nice.

I get the same problem reported by others that it seems to read the "Album Artist" tag and use that for playlists etc, which is a big problem for "Various Artists" albums. But I can live with it until it's fixed I guess 8)

This version seems a lot leaner on memory footprint and faster when browsing, so great work Sindre! :D

I also still get the Strings.jar problem i posted about earlier when deploying (which is easy to fix for me) and is probably a "bug" in Jboss:
viewtopic.php?t=9257
I will hear with the jboss.org guys about this one.

I re-installed 4.7b3 as a clean install on my server and the problem with the playlists not showing in the left frame without a lot of browser refreshing seems to have gone - whether that was due to the previous install being an upgrade on a 4. 6 DB or chrome just having a bad day I dunno :? .
As I now have both 4.6 and 4.7b3 installed on the same server the only issues I can report are the sorting bug.
When turning off "sort albums by year" the only apparent change is the years disappear from the main frame list - the sort remains the same.

And of course the previous reported problem of not reading the <artist> tag.
That needs to read for the search index and also shown in the now playing window eg as per 4.6
To put thing into perspective - with the same media folders

4.6
Code: Select all
8,616 artists
8,905 albums
107,214 songs

4.7
Code: Select all
2,849 artists
9,185 albums
107,091 songs

And no I have no idea why I now have 280 more albums but 123 less songs :?

But generally a solid improvement over the previous beta :)

Edit: I spoke too soon ref: playlists
I am now getting
Code: Select all
Play | Download | Edit | Delete | Export
Created by BKKKPewsey on August 7, 2012. Shared. 92 songs (670:45)
Playlist is empty

Same story with the other playlist I created yesterday eg playlist contains XX songs and playlist is empty :?

Hi guys,

New to subsonic, discovered it one week ago, I love what you're doing. :D

I have successfully upgraded from 4.6 to 4.7 beta 3 and no issue for me. All previous settings applied, every feature that I'm using is working.

Now I'd like to try playing videos on my Android device through HLS protocole, but I've got no idea how proceed to begin with.

I've downloaded a dedicated player, acting like a plugin on default brower, but whenever I play videos it's usual flash player that comes out.

I thougt about missing parameters so I tried to connect to my local server with http://localhost:8080/rest/hls.view (stuff I read about online), but it says :

<subsonic-response xmlns="http://subsonic.org/restapi" status="failed" version="1.8.0">
<error code="10" message="Required parameter is missing."/>
</subsonic-response>

It seems that I have to generate a playlist beforehand right? Can anyone tell me how to proceed step by step?

Thanks for helping I'm a bit lost, and sorry for my noobishness.

No need to apologize, this where a noob should come for help.

HLS for now is only working on Roku and iOS from what I've seen so far. Hopefully Android and other applications will be integrated at some point in the future.

Playlists are easily created in the desktop interface by adding music to the playlist below the player bar in the lower half of the svreen, then click on the dropdown box to the right end of the player control bar in the middle of the screen. All the options for adding to and creating playlists are there.

I don't even know if you can create new playlists from the phone app as I've just never had the need to do that.

Hi,

as example correct Call should be, but the actual android client app doesnt suport this.

API Documentation are there --> http://www.subsonic.org/pages/api.jsp#hls

Thanks guys for your help.

Regarding playlists, I know how to make them of course, but I was most likely thinking about specific m3u8 playlist d3dicated for hls. But I'm really not familiar with it so I was just in the dark, guessing around...

So regarding hls working on Androud, throught the app sure it's not been updated for this feature, but I've seen on the web that it was working on desktop windows web browsers and apps, so in theory, it should work with Android native web browser throught any tier hls player plugin.

So I tried to launch a video throught subsonic web interface and then adding manually (in the right spot as you advised) hls.view? and then hls.m3u8?. It opened the hls player but no buffering...

I'll keep on trying until I get something though. I'm a perseverant guy. ;-)

Finally got this installed and the music now skips and stutters on playback. The songs appear cached fully so I'm not sure why this be. Has anyone else experience this?

Hi everyone, just updated to 4.7.beta3 from 4.6 and so far liking what I see. The scan completed rather quickly, the new features (starring, specially) are rather cool, and the playlist importing seems to have worked OK, so no problems on that front.

I have a few small bones to pick with this release, however:
  • My favourite folder structure is Artist / Artist - Name / Nr. Song.mp3 . It used to be that the artist name would be automatically omitted from the album list when it matched the parent folder name. This is no longer the case and I can't find any way to turn this feature back on... is this intentional?
  • Although it has already been mentioned, I can confirm that searching by artist fails to find songs within multi-artist albums, even though the artists themselves are displayed correctly in the album information and the playlist. EDIT: After some more testing, the problem lies in that the artist is not correctly determined for multi-artist albums - they all get recorded as "Various" (from the Album Artist, I suppose), even though the tags do have a correct Artist for each song (and worked fine in 4.6)
  • The glacial slowness with large lists I reported here is still present (and with a vengeance, it would seem).
  • This is probably more for tsquillario than for Sindre, but MiniSub can be frustrating to set up correctly, especially because it tends to be rather picky with the 'server' part. It does not work with the xxx.subsonic.org redirection, for instance, and requires the URL to start with http[s]:// to work - but no error message of any kind is ever displayed if it fails to connect to the server. A better integration, or at least a slightly longer explanation in the main Subsonic page (where the link is, second to last icon - it's called 'Más' [More] in Spanish) would be welcome. Of course, the absolute best solution would be for MiniSub to automatically fill in the 'server' part with by reading the URL (this would also solve another problem: if you have a dynamic IP you will have to change the 'server' part whenever your IP changes).
  • I find that sorting albums by year is a wonderful feature, but it makes the 'year' field much more important than it used to be. It would be awesome to be able to search for albums which don't yet have year information to fill in the blanks.
Thanks for a great release!

Only happens to me in Firefox... Just FLAC files tho. I have disabled all addons and plugins except flash & still the problem persists. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled flash, but still a problem.

I thought about rolling back to 4.6, but I really didn't want to... So I just use Chrome for time being.

Further info regarding playlists - the content appears to be disappearing over night eg after the nightly rescan.
The two which were not showing content yesterday I deleted and re-imported ok so I imported a third.
I now have 3 playlists which are saying xxx songs but the playlist is empty.
If you try to download or export you get either an empty zip file or an empty m3u file (not entirely surprising)

2 Errors on 4.7.beta3

Postby ananda96 » Thu Aug 09, 2012 11:22 pm

user mad evil recommended to me to file this as a bug:

Subsonic Change Log
Subsonic 4.7.beta3 - Aug 03, 2012

Bugfix: Don't display "null" as artist in now playing.

It still appears once on Browser start as a popup.

Second bug:

now count of Artists is wrong: more than 1000 less.
estimated time count: ~ half than before.

Mad Evil told me that he noticed the same error.

Version 4.7.beta3 (build 3092) – 8. August 2012 – (Moded by MadEvil)
Server jetty-6.1.x, java 1.7.0_05, Windows 7 (80,4 MB / 147,6 MB)

always doing clean and fresh install from scratch.

Mod: Moved post to keep all 4.7b3 posts in the same thread
