Two issues:
1. What happened to the database statistics (number of artists/songs/etc.) that used to appear atop the left frame? On my install they're gone.
2. When I add new albums but don't refresh the search database, some of the new albums appear in "Recently added" but not all. Once I refresh the database they appear.

1. Your Database stats are now at the bottom of the left frame

wannabe_nerd wrote:it seems as if the problem with the videofiles disappeared ! Nice i still have to do some testing, but all of my test-mkv-files have been displayed correctly so far :-)

All my videos have disappeared, actually. I have five folders searched by the database engine: one for music, and four containing video. None of my videos are appearing in the left-hand frame listing artists even though they previously did, nor are they appearing in search results. There are AVIs, MPEGs and MKVs that should be appearing in the database. I checked for the videos via SubMini too, but they're not there either.

Edited to add troubleshooting steps and solution:

I tried rolling back first to beta 2, then beta 1 but the videos did not reappear. I then returned to beta 3, removed one of the video folders from the database by deleting it from "Media Folders," re-added it and rescanned. Video files were still not visible.

I then began to wonder if it has to do with the fact that the videos are stored on a network drive, for while my music is on a local drive, all videos included in my database are stored on a network drive.I tried changing the address of one of the video folders from a network address to that of a mapped drive, but Subsonic wouldn't accept that address. I then changed the address of one of the video folders from the network name of the network drive to its numeric IP address and rescanned. That did the trick, the videos have now reappeared. 8)

It thus appears to me that perhaps the newly rewritten database engine can find network shares via IP address but not via network name? That seems odd to me, but it worked for me.

Sindre,
I think that Subsonic maybe needs an Album Artist AND Artist for each track.
Currently I cannot seem to find the correct situation which shows the Album Artist (when searching and viewing the Artist tree) AND still showing the Artist (plus featuring etc) for each single track on the Album?

I have tried some things to get it working like updating my password or deactivating lastfm and reactivating lastfm, but it doesn't help.

Kind Regards

Could it be that I lost all my 'comments', or did that already happen with the install of 4.6?

PB

EDIT: IT HAPPENED WITH THE INSTALL OF 4.6; THE BETA PRESERVED ALL COMMENTS.....

In previous releases the root of a folder would be read, now Subsonic doesn't.

An example:

I have a folder 'Ben Webster'. In that folder is a sub-folder 'Music For Loving' with two folders, CD1 & CD2. Both have a jpeg, showing front and back of the CD. Subsonic doesn't read the hidden jpegs. It never did. To solve this I put a cover in the sub-folder, so it will be shown when I click 'Ben Webster, next to the covers of the other albums.

As stated above, in previous versions, all the artwork in all the sub-folders would be shown.

Hope this gets fixed.

Not sure what's going on here.. all has been well, including beta 1 and 2, until upgrading to beta 3. Now when I try to open subsonic in the browser, i get a 404 error for the index.view

I tried changing ports, but it doesn't seem to help...

I've tried starting/stopping the service multiple times... doesn't help.

It's like it's no longer pointing to the proper local drive location for subsonic's web files. Did something get changed back to use the "default" hard coded install location? My windows drive is not "standard" (long story) and is on G:\.. which is also where the subsonic directory resides.

*edit*
Additionally, my 2nd computer with subsonic on it can no longer access network shares. I have already gone in and changed the subsonic service to have admin rights... stopped/started service and rebooted. This was working fine up through beta 2.

To work around this second issue, I had to change the username/password on the system with the network shares to match the user/pass of my admin account on the machine with subsonic. In the past, all that was required was having the computer with the subsonic account have it's service logged in as an admin.

I haven't figured out a way to fix my first problem, which is the one PC with the 404 problem.

*another edit*
After reinstalling beta 3 a few times, the problem resolved itself.... not sure what to say as far as troubleshooting goes for anyone else that might experience this problem... but the 404 has gone away. On a side note, after the install, it took an unusually long time for the icon to go green in the tray even after the control panel said it was running...

I'm having this same problem too... But I can't get any of the 4.7.beta's to work! I'm currently running Ubuntu 12.04LTS and Subsonic 4.6. This is the first update that I have had trouble installing... All of my permissions seem [linux noob] to be correct... I've checked my ports and made sure the configuration file was correct. Is there something else I'm missing?

I remember a couple of versions back something was changed and Subsonic was very picky about admin rights - is this the case again?

Thanks for any insight!

The 4.7beta3 package works fine... I suggest you do a complete uninstallation of Subsonic and then reinstall it.

THANK YOU for the awesome media server! The speed improvement is greatly appreciated.

Problem Description:
(Minor) Having problems with PLAYLIST similar to other reports (can’t delete, modify)

(Major) The “MORE” (top nav) function is taking forever to load. Sometimes it doesn’t show the screen at all.
Any ideas?

Troubleshooting Steps: Reinstalled 2 or 3 times.

Bug with coverart

Postby mp3sponge » Wed Aug 15, 2012 3:00 pm

Ive clean installed beta3 and its fantastic except for 1 problem ive noticed. It seems to be really picky about coverart. Every 20-30 albums it just cant figure out a cover , even if I click 'change' and update it with a different jpg.

note: Ive made sure the file type is jpg (also not jpeg) , not a png or any other image type. Also they're not giant photos (average 40k-100k in size).

Any ideas? is there something I can try out? Im not a pc noob , so i'd try any decent suggestion.

Hi Sindre!

First of all, thanks for the time you've spent working on this project and for releasing it as open source!

I wanted to ask - I'd love to use the apps that people have built to connect to the Subsonic server. But since they pass my username and password in clear text over the internet every time I browse my music, I feel a bit awkward about it. Have you considered deprecating this old insecure way of passing credentials, and switching to something like what's described here? http://www.thebuzzmedia.com/designing-a ... ntication/

I've been thinking of adding it myself, but then I'd turn incompatible with the rest of the world which would be a shame. And this has to be synchronized with all app developers that are out there. To make it happen, it would probably be a good idea to have a grace period of a couple of months for everyone to catch up, and then simply deny insecure calls from there on.

Will this ever happen, or should I just give up on the existing apps?

Regards

@hakko - is using a SSL connection out of the question for you? That would do away with the cleartext problem...
