Playback issues with Ogg on 4.7 Beta 3

Postby r1t1l3n » Sun Aug 19, 2012 7:49 pm

I'm having trouble getting general ogg playback and transcoding working on 4.7 beta 3.

I seems to work fine on android client, but I'm unable to get it working with web frontend (jwplayer).

For native Ogg tracks, it looks like jwplayer caches the entire track, but doesn't start playing. If I skip to the middle of the track, it still does nothing and after a little bit it will skip to the next track. For transcoding it is the same. The subsonic.log shows that it is accessing the track with no errors.

I have tried upgrading JWPlayer and it doesn't make a difference.

I also tried this in Firefox, Chrome, and Safari and it has made no difference.

I didn't think ogg was supported in jwplayer in the first place but maybe I'm wrong or they've updated it since. What phone and version of android are you using? Cause transcoding from flac to ogg on galaxy nexus android 4.1.1 isn't working so hot these days for me.

http://www.longtailvideo.com/support/jw ... mats#audio

You may need to upgrade the player to the latest version.

Edit: In spite of what the LongTail Video site says, I just tested a few ogg files and they still need to be transcoded to mp3 for desktop playback.

Go figure ...

Thanks for looking into this.

I went over and did some more looking on the JW Player site.
They only list ogg support with HTML5 for Firefox/Chrome.

So looks like it doesn't work withflash. I suppose subsonic wont be support html5 anytime soon?

I know that HTML 5 is on the developer's mind and he has acknowledged that Subsonic will be going in that direction at some point. For now, finishing 4.7 and updating the Android app are on the front burner. HLS video was rolled into the iSub app recently and is scheduled for the next Android version. I wouldn't be surprised if HTML 5 might be on the board when it gets time for version 4.8.
