I would like to see this added as well. Makes much more sense now that video's have been added too. You could have a user that can only see music, and a user that can only see videos, and another user that can see both.

First thing I thought of and I knew a few threads requesting this would be on here. I will be sending this request along with a donation to support this project. Access controls are fundamental to any application with more than one user. I hope it can be added to a release in the near future.

Great program.

Restricted Access to Directorys

Postby Frank » Wed Jan 18, 2012 5:54 am

I would like to have an Option to restrict access to directorys.

Example:

User A can see all Dirs
User B can not see directory A but all the Rest.
User C can only see directory A

Reason: Children should not have access to some Tracks.

I would like to turn off scobbling for Podcasts, but let it turn on for the Rest...

I was just fixing to post something similar:

I'd like to see something like a global media folder setting that applies to all users. Then a specific user media folder setting that over rides the global setting. For example:

To be specific I have my music separated into 2 main media folders, Christian & Secular.

User "allaccess" can access both Christian & Secular media folders.

Users "youth", "kids", & "church" can only see and access the Christian folder only. The obvious reason is I have some older music in my secular media folder that I don't want my kids having access to.

Or if there's a work around or a way to do this know please let me know.

P.S. LOVE the program!! I installed 4.7b2 last night and within 30 minutes I was hooked and sent in my donation. No more ftp server access that people don't understand lol...

+50. Why no answer? Lack of this feature is the only thing holding this back from being perfect for my needs. Without user access control, I can't donate our use this product, which is unfortunate given how cool its features are.

I would love this feature. As the admin I have several folders I use while processing stuff and a few I keep things regular users don't need to see.
Some of these files I can't share with subsonic since they are sensitive and others just get in the way and confuse my regular users.

I'd like to be able to have a private "stash" for each users as well as being able to limit what some users can see.

A group based permission structure would be awesome, that way we could easily add new users and give them access to what they should see and restrict access to what they shouldn't. This could also be used to set various account rules and such. I feel Subsonics user system is one of the places with the most potential for improvment.

Not sure if it's possible, but I think if you get the LDAP user account enabled and working properly, then you should be able to limit access to the folders based on the LDAP credentials, and essentially block certain users from certain folders that way.

I would like to keep my Windows users and subsonic users seperate. I'm not against LDAP as an option, but not a single one of my Subsonic users will get a user on my server.

It doesn't work that way... LDAP is only used for initial account verification and creation. From that point on all file access is using the service account that the Subsonic Server is running under.

This suggestion has been around for a long time. I wouldn't think it would be too difficult for Sindre to set it up so that all the media folders can have check boxes for each folder entry to designate it as public or private and then set up similar check boxes for each user entry that enable users to access public or private folders, if you check both boxes then a user could access all folders.

This isn't rocket science is it?
