Cannot access NAS folders [Resolved]

Postby bluetooth » Mon Sep 10, 2012 5:47 pm

I recently had to put security on my NAS volumes. The user that accesses the NAS has complete read/write access to the complete volume. I can access the volume and folders perfectly fine from the PC.
\\dns-323\volume_1\_video\tvseries

However, when I put that folder into Subsonic, it reports the folder is not available.

Any suggestions on this?

Have you given the user a/c that SS is running under R/W access?

The user on the PC is cliff. The user that accesses the NAS is also cliff. That user has full access to the volume when using Windows Explorer.

I would suggest that you read my reply again :?
The SS service does not run as a normal user but under local system a/c which does not (by default) have R/W access to network shares under Windows.
If you are running under another OS then I suggest you read viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5506

I thought it might be something like that.
Can I configure the SS user to have access? Can I find out what the SS service user is and give it access?
Or, to put it another way; is there any way to get my tv and movies back into SS while leaving the security in place?

Just change the a/c that SS is running under to another which does have R/W access eg your user a/c.
I would suggest not changing the default system a/c privileges as that could/will have security implications for the whole pc.
As this is a bit more complicated I would suggest using Google to do a bit of research as the the answer varies a bit depending on your os version eg Xp, Vista, 7 etc.

Actually, once I took a look at the service it was pretty straightforward.
I created a SubSonic user in Windows. I created a subsonic user on my NAS. I then gave Nas-subsonic user the correct access.
I change the local access account in the service to the windows subsonic account. Everything is great.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, much appreciated.
